My MS 365 for Mac runs on Monterey. It will not update any further. How can I get the new security certificate?

I am running Monterey, MacOS 12.7.6. This is as far as my MacBook Pro can go.

MS-Update cannot update Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.

How can I get the new July 13 2026 security certificate so that I can continue running MS-365 for Mac onboard, offline?

Hi Kirk M. Ruch

Based on your description, they are separate issues:

1. The Security Certificate (This is not the problem)

You do not need to do anything to get the new certificate. As explained in this document on the Certificate update for Microsoft 365 apps on managed macOS and iOS devices - Microsoft 365 Apps | M… your macOS Monterey 12.7.6 and Office version 16.83 already includes the necessary root certificates to connect to Microsoft services. Your current apps will continue to connect securely.

2. Microsoft 365 App Update

According to this article: Upgrade macOS to continue receiving Microsoft 365 and Office for Mac updates - Microsoft Support

The August 2024 update (16.88) is the last build to support macOS Monterey (12).

That mean macOS Monterey will be supported up to version 16.88. If you would like to download this update, you can download it here: Update history for Office for Mac - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn

I hope this information helps:
