I changed iphones and the old iphone is being sent the authenticator when I try to login.

I have a back up email address which I get the first code, the second code should go to my phone, but that has stopped working.

I submitted account recovery form on 27 May and I am still awaiting a response.

This is getting urgent, can you please help?

Thank you for letting me know.

You can try removing and re-adding the Microsoft Authenticator from your account settings online:

    • Open Edge (or any browser you prefer) and go to: https://account.microsoft.com
    • When you are asked for a Microsoft Authenticator code, click "Other ways to sign in" and choose an alternative verification method.
    • Once you’re signed in successfully, go to the Security tab.
    • You may be prompted again for two-step verification. If so, use "Other ways to sign in" again.
    • Under Security, select "Manage how I sign in". Or use this direct link https://account.live.com/proofs/manage/additional
    • Find "Send sign-in notification", expand it, and click "Remove". This will remove Microsoft Authenticator as a sign-in method.
    • Sign out of your Microsoft account completely.
    • Sign in again, return to the Security section, and re-enable Microsoft Authenticator.
    • On your phone, uninstall the Microsoft Authenticator app, then reinstall it and set it up again when prompted.

Please let me know at which step you might get stuck, or if you don’t see one of these options. I’ll be glad to guide you further.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Are you using a personal Microsoft account or a work/school account?

    (If personal Microsoft account)

In the meantime, you can try the recovery process using this Microsoft support article:

"Restore account credentials from Microsoft Authenticator" https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/restore-account-credentials-from-microsoft-authenticator-ce53096e-1e1c-4840-9e32-1618bc33cd43

Here’s a quick summary of what’s in there:

    • On your mobile device, open the Authenticator app.
    • Select "Restore from backup" (or "Begin recovery" if you're on iOS).
    • Sign in using the personal Microsoft account you originally used to set up the backup.
    • The app should then restore your account credentials automatically.

Let me know if you see the restore option.
