Microsoft account issue – Copilot Tasks quota stuck

I am using Copilot through a Chrome browser on a Mac. My Copilot Tasks quota is stuck. The weekly reset date has passed but the banner still blocks new Tasks. All Tasks freeze on ‘Thinking this through’. This is a known Copilot Tasks entitlement bug and requires a backend reset. Please refresh or clear my Tasks entitlement state. (I spoke with a Support technician who tried a couple fixes but then confirmed it was a known issue but that he could not help me fix it, nor could he reset the Task Limit.)

    Hi Tom Whaley,

I understand how frustrating it is when things get stuck like this, especially when it’s blocking usage completely. I can see you’ve already done quite a bit of troubleshooting and even spoke to support, having them confirmed it’s a known issue.

That's also why I need to clarify this in advance to set expectations clearly: this is a user‑to‑user support forum, with no access to any internal tools or backend systems. That means if even Microsoft support couldn’t resolve or reset the entitlement on their side, there isn’t anything contributors here can help with your account.

From what you’re describing (quota not resetting, banner stuck, Tasks freezing), that does match a backend/state issue tied to your account rather than anything on your device to guarantee user-side fixes. But just wondering, since you're using it on Chrome, have you tried opening in another browser (e.g. Edge) or install the Copilot application?

Now realistically, continuing to try local fixes won’t unblock an account's quota limit. What we can suggest at this point is mainly to help push things in the right direction:

    1. Visit Contact Us - Microsoft Support > Sign in
    2. Type in your problem > click Get Help to make request
    3. Scroll to the bottom and click Contact Support to connect to agent
    4. Select category again > click Next and you should be added to a chat queue.
    5. Clearly request escalation for the case to be routed to the Copilot/backend service team.

Note: The support contact team only works at certain times, so if the last window shows that it's unavailable, try opening it again the next day. If you prefer phone support, you can leave a phone number. This way, they can call you and help you.

I know that’s not the ideal answer, but given the nature of this issue, there's not much we can do here. Really sorry that you're stuck in this situation, I wish I can help further.

Copilot Tasks quota and entitlement state cannot be reset from the client side. When the quota banner is stuck and Tasks remain on “Thinking this through” after the weekly reset date, and a support agent has already confirmed it is a known backend entitlement issue, the only viable resolution path is escalation through Microsoft support so the backend state can be corrected.

For a home Microsoft 365 subscription on macOS, the options supported in the provided guidance are:

    1. Run Copilot-related troubleshooters (where available)
      • Open the Get Help app (on a supported Microsoft platform).
      • In the Search bar, enter Copilot License Troubleshooter and follow the steps.
      • If connectivity might be involved, run the Copilot connectivity troubleshooter as well.
      • After running a troubleshooter, review the findings and suggested remedies in Get Help.
    2. If troubleshooters do not resolve the issue
      • For home users who still have Copilot-related entitlement or validation problems after following the documented steps, the guidance is to contact Microsoft Support and have the case escalated.
      • Clearly state that this is a persistent Copilot Tasks entitlement/quota issue that did not reset after the weekly window and that a backend entitlement refresh is required.

Because entitlement and quota state are controlled entirely on Microsoft’s backend, there is no documented way for an end user to force a reset from the browser, the Mac, or the Microsoft 365 apps. Resolution requires Microsoft support to correct the account’s Copilot entitlement state.
