Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Are you able to see your Microsoft Office 2024 under the Services & subscriptions page here: https://account.microsoft.com/services (make sure you’re signed in with the same Microsoft account you used to activate Office)?

If you can see it there, please follow these steps below.

If you haven't already, I’d suggest is to uninstall any existing Office apps on your Mac to avoid conflict:

    Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services again.
    • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your license.
    • Find your Microsoft Office 2024 and click the "Install".
    • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" option still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

Office 2024 for Mac is installed but opening in read-only is usually caused by either licensing/activation issues or file protection settings.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Confirm Office 2024 is properly activated
    • Open Word on the Mac.
    • Go to Word > About Word and Word > Sign Out (if signed in with an old Microsoft 365 or work/school account).
    • Close Word.
    • Reopen Word and, when prompted, sign in with the Microsoft account used to purchase/redeem Office 2024.
    • After sign-in, check under Word > About Word or Word > Preferences > Account that it shows the correct Office 2024 license (non-subscription / Home & Student / Home & Business, depending on what was purchased).

If the apps still behave like a Microsoft 365 trial (asking for a subscription), the old license from a previous employer or subscription may still be cached. In that case, follow the documented “Remove Office license” process (from the Q&A reference) to clear the old license, then sign in again with the account tied to the Office 2024 purchase.

    1. Make sure the latest updates are installed
    • Open any Office app (Word, Excel, etc.).
    • On the Help menu, select Check for Updates.
    • In the updates window, select Automatically keep Microsoft apps up to date.
    • Select Update and install all available updates.
    • Restart the Office apps and test creating/editing a document again.
    1. Check if the file itself is read-only or in Protected View For any document that opens read-only:
    • In Finder, right-click the file > Get Info and ensure Locked is not checked and permissions allow Read & Write.
    • If the file opens in Protected View (banner at the top), use the Enable Editing button if available.

If, after clearing old licenses and signing in with the correct account, Office still insists on a Microsoft 365 subscription or remains read-only, use the guidance in What to try if you can't install or activate Office for Mac and Fixes or workarounds for recent Office installation or activation issues to check for any current Mac-specific activation issues, then reinstall Office 2024 for Mac using the correct installer tied to the account.
