Can not open OneDrive. Error code is 503 SERVICE UNAVAILABLE. I have closed & restarted computer. I have tried different search engines to open but no luck. Is One Drive down for servicing

This question was asked on the 7th May 2026 and instead of fixing the problem your response was to pass it back to the person asking the question!

It is now the 21st May 2026 and the same error message is still showing on Onedrive!

This is not really a server side issue, but session confusion if you try to use more than one account in the same browser.

For example, this can occur if one account is signed in to Edge, while another account is also signed in through a different Edge tab or an InPrivate window.

To avoid this, try keeping each account in a separate browser. For example, use Edge for one account and Google Chrome for another. This helps prevent account session conflicts and may stop the error from appearing.

For an independent adviser it is hard to understand how you missed one issue that prevents what you suggest happening!

You need to sign out of one account before you can sign into another and so use more than one account in the same browser is NOT POSSIBLE even in multiple windows.

Also, having signed out of one account and restarted my laptop before signing back into the same account the issue appeared to have been resolved - however - when i signed out of that account and signed into a different account - the same issue returned!

So please let me have your next guess at fixing a problem that is at Microsoft's end not mine!

Error 503 (Service Unavailable) indicates a service-side issue, not something that can be fixed from the local device. SharePoint Online and OneDrive use throttling and temporary service protections that can return 503 or related messages when the service is under load or when there are temporary issues.

    When this happens:

    1. The error is typically transient and handled by Microsoft’s service infrastructure.
    2. Users may see 503, “Server is busy,” or be placed “in line to access this site.” The waiting mechanism automatically retries and eventually allows access when capacity is available.
    3. If multiple users in the organization see slow or delayed OneDrive/SharePoint behavior, it is likely a temporary service issue.

For ongoing 503 errors over days:

    1. Check the Microsoft 365 Service Health Dashboard in the admin center to see if there is an active incident affecting SharePoint or OneDrive.
    2. If the dashboard shows an incident, Microsoft is already working on it; resolution is handled on the service side.
    3. If no incident is shown but the problem persists for many users, an admin should open a support ticket with Microsoft so the service team can investigate and remediate.

The 503 condition itself is not something that can be “fixed” on the client; it is a signal that the cloud service is temporarily unavailable or throttling requests and must be resolved in the Microsoft 365 backend.
