Microsoft 365 and Office | Clipchamp | For home
A video editing tool developed by Microsoft, designed to make video creation easy and accessible for everyone.
In Clipchamp for personal (home) accounts, projects and media do not get uploaded to the cloud by default, so they may not always appear on the Home page even though the underlying files still exist.
To find and recover the videos:
- Check the original media locations
- Clipchamp keeps media on the local device unless content backup was enabled.
- For videos originally on the computer, look in the folders where they were first stored (e.g., Videos, Downloads, custom folders, external drives, or online storage used as backup).
- If the original files were deleted, check the operating system’s Recycle Bin and restore them if available.
- If they were webcam or screen recordings
- When using Clipchamp’s recorder and clicking Save and edit, the recording is added to the project and a WebM file is saved to the Downloads folder (or the browser’s default download folder).
- Look in that folder for the WebM files from the dates when the projects were created.
- If the videos came from a phone
- Check the phone’s gallery/camera roll, including the Recently Deleted folder, to restore any removed clips.
- If content backup was not enabled and originals are gone
- When using Clipchamp without Content Backup and the original files have been deleted or lost from the computer (and are not in Recycle Bin or the original source), recovering those media files is not possible.
To avoid this in the future in Clipchamp’s personal version:
- Enable content backup in projects (if available in the plan) so media is backed up in the cloud and can be consistently loaded.
- Keep separate backups of original media on the computer, external drives, or online storage.
If the projects themselves no longer show on the Home page but the media files still exist, new projects can be created and the recovered media re‑added from their original locations.
