Outlook for Android cannot receive message notifications properly

We downloaded Outlook on the HarmonyOS 5.0 system and found that new emails do not show notifications. The system notifications and Outlook notifications have already been enabled. New emails only appear after pulling down to refresh and do not display notification alerts (red dot, banner).

On Outlook for Android, notifications for new messages are, by default, only triggered for mail in the Focused Inbox. Even if system and app notifications are enabled, new messages may not alert if they are not in Focused Inbox or if Outlook’s own notification settings are limited.

To ensure notifications are enabled for all new mail:

    1. Open Outlook on the device.
    2. Go to Settings.
    3. Under Quick Settings, tap Notifications.
    4. Turn on Allow notifications.
    5. Under From, select All email (instead of Focused Inbox Only or Favourite People).

If notifications are still not received, verify the system-level notification and background settings for Outlook on HarmonyOS, ensuring Outlook is allowed to run in the background and is not restricted by battery or background-activity controls. On Android 9 (Pie), for example, background restrictions can block alerts and must be disabled for Outlook under Manage Battery Usage; HarmonyOS may have similar controls that need to be adjusted so Outlook can sync and notify in the background.

    Hi @西湖IT管理员

On my side, using Outlook for Android version 5.21618.1, I am still receiving email notifications correctly. Since you have already confirmed that notifications are enabled both on the device and within the Outlook app, I would like to suggest the following checks to help narrow down the behavior:

If applicable, could you try adding another Microsoft account to the Outlook app and see whether the notifications work there? This can help verify whether the behavior is specific to your current account or affects the entire app.

    • If only the current account is affected, you may try removing and re-adding the account to see if it helps.
    • If the same behavior occurs with other accounts as well, I recommend reinstalling the app by following these steps:

1/ Clear browser cache, especially if it contains saved Outlook credentials.

2 / Clear the Outlook app cache:

In my test environment, the steps are: Settings > Apps > App Management > Outlook > Storage Usage

Note: The exact path may vary slightly depending on your device, but the general steps should be similar.

    undefined

    3/ Reinstall the Outlook app

Additionally, restarting your device completely can sometimes help resolve unexpected behavior.

If you have any updates after trying the steps above, please feel free to share

Note: Please follow the steps in our documentation to enable e-mail notifications if you want to receive the related email notification for this thread.
