A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
On Android, the Cloud Backup toggle fails when the app is not properly signed in to a Microsoft personal account for backup, or when the existing backup state is inconsistent.
Try these steps in order:
- Confirm sign-in for backup
- Open Microsoft Authenticator.
- Tap the menu (⋮ or ☰) > Settings.
- Under Backup, turn on Cloud Backup.
- When prompted, select Continue or Change account and sign in with a Microsoft personal account (not work/school) to act as the recovery account.
- After sign-in completes, try toggling Cloud Backup on again.
- Remove and recreate the backup
- In Settings > Backup, if a backup is already associated, turn Cloud Backup off and confirm OK to delete the backup.
- Turn Cloud Backup back on.
- Select Continue or Change account and choose the correct Microsoft personal account.
- Tap OK to create a fresh backup.
- If the error persists Since the app already asked to submit logs and provided a folio ID (PUQ8NWF2), keep that ID and share it with support or IT admin if this is a work/school-managed device. They can use it together with the diagnostics logs to investigate further.
Note:
- Only one backup per Microsoft personal account is supported. If the backup was previously tied to a different account, it must be deleted and recreated under the desired account.
- Backup and restore must be on the same platform type (Android-to-Android or iOS-to-iOS).
