Hello,
I currently have a one-time license 20 digit code for Microsoft Office ProfessionalPLUS 2019, but i can not make it work on my macbook pro (mac os 13.7.8 from 2017). I was told to get a Microsoft Office 2019 Home and Business license instead. If I buy it, will it be supported on my mac? If so, how can I make it work? Every time I have downloaded an Office software from 2019, it asks for a Microsoft 365 subscription, but i only want to use the code... is it possible to make it run with a code?
Thank you,

You cannot use pro plus license. That’s volume license. Not for consumers.

if you purchase a perpetual license from Microsoft, such as office home 2024, you should be able to use it.

delete the current apps. Install this way instead.

    Please go to https://www.office.com

Sign into the Microsoft account you used for the order.

Click on Apps on the left. Then on the upper right, click on "Install apps". This will now download the installer file. Once downloaded, click on the file to install. It will install the Desktop version of the apps for you then.

Office Professional Plus 2019 is a volume license product intended for large organizations and is not a supported consumer license on Mac. That 20‑digit Professional Plus key cannot be used to activate Office for Mac.

To use Word (and the other Office apps) on a Mac with a one‑time purchase, a supported perpetual Mac license such as Office 2019 Home & Business or Home & Student is required.

Key points for Mac support and activation:

    1. Compatibility of Office 2019 Home & Business on Mac
    • Office 2019 Home & Business for Mac is supported with the Office for Mac installers provided directly by Microsoft.
    • The Mac App Store versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are subscription-only and require a Microsoft 365 subscription to activate. They do not work with one‑time (perpetual) licenses like Office 2019 Home & Business.
    • Perpetual licenses (Office 2019 Home & Business, Home & Student, and volume licenses) are explicitly not compatible with Office apps downloaded from the Mac App Store.
    1. How to install Office 2019 for Mac so a one‑time license works To use a one‑time Office 2019 Home & Business license on Mac:
    1. Remove any Mac App Store Office apps
    • Close Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • Open Finder → Applications.
    • Locate Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • Control‑click each and choose “Move to Trash”, then empty the Trash.
    1. Install Office for Mac from Microsoft (not the Mac App Store)
    1. Activate with the correct one‑time license
    • After installation, start Word.
    • Sign in with the Microsoft account that has the Office 2019 Home & Business (or Home & Student) license associated with it.
    • Choose the appropriate license when prompted and complete activation.
    1. Why a Microsoft 365 subscription prompt appears
    • When Office apps are installed from the Mac App Store, they are subscription builds and always prompt for a Microsoft 365 subscription.
    • One‑time (perpetual) licenses cannot activate those Mac App Store builds, which is why they stay in reduced functionality mode and ask for a subscription.
    • Installing the non–App Store Office for Mac builds from Microsoft is required so a perpetual license can be used.
    1. Multiple licenses and Mac
    • A Microsoft account can hold multiple Mac licenses (Microsoft 365 subscription plus multiple one‑time Mac licenses).
    • For one‑time licenses, there is no built‑in tracking of which device uses which license, so keeping a personal record is recommended.

In summary: the existing Office Professional Plus 2019 key cannot be used on Mac. Purchasing Office 2019 Home & Business (or another supported perpetual Mac license), then uninstalling Mac App Store Office apps and reinstalling Office for Mac directly from Microsoft, will allow activation and use without a Microsoft 365 subscription.
