I have no 'attach item' button on my tool bar. Im using outlook to view a Yahoo mail account.

Furthermore there is no 'options button in my file menu to fix this issue.

How do I include the 'attach item' button on my tool bar

    Dear rory byrne,

Thank you so much for your follow-up.

I understand how confusing it can be when certain options aren’t where you expect them to be, especially when you're trying to follow specific steps. Just to clarify, the Options button under the File menu is part of the Windows version of Outlook. On a Mac, settings are located a bit differently, under Outlook > Settings (or Preferences).

Also, in the New Outlook for Mac, the interface has been redesigned, so some familiar features—like the dedicated Attach Item button—may not currently available, particularly when using third-party accounts such as Yahoo.

That said, you still have a couple of ways to work around this, depending on what feels more comfortable for you:

Option 1: Switch back to Legacy Outlook (to bring back the classic toolbar) If you'd prefer to have those familiar options available again:

    1. Open Outlook.
    2. Click Help in the top menu bar.
    3. Select Revert to Legacy Outlook.
    4. Confirm the prompt to restart the app.

You can also do this from the Outlook menu next to the Apple logo by unchecking New Outlook.

Once you switch back, the Attach Item option should appear again when composing a new email.

Option 2: Use the drag-and-drop method in New Outlook If you’d prefer to stay on the current version, you can still attach emails:

    1. Open a new email draft.
    2. Position your windows so you can see both your inbox and the draft.
    3. Simply drag the email you want to attach into your message—it will be added as a file automatically.

You can also right-click an email and choose Forward as attachment.

I hope this helps make things a bit clearer. Please feel free to let me know which option works best for you, or if you’d like me to walk you through anything further.

    Thanks very helpful.
The Attach item command is not available in the Mail Options list, so it cannot be added to the toolbar in that build.
So how do I change the build or get a version of Microsoft Outlook where the 'Attach Item' button is present?

In Outlook for Mac, toolbar buttons such as attachment commands are managed through the customizable toolbar.

To add an attachment-related button to the toolbar:

    1. In Outlook for Mac, select the See more items button () on the toolbar.
    2. Select Customize Toolbar.
    3. In the Mail Options area that appears, locate the attachment-related command (for example, the button used to attach files/items).
    4. Drag that command up into the toolbar to the position where it should appear, then release the mouse.
    5. Select Done to save the customization.

If the specific Attach item command is not available in the Mail Options list, it cannot be added to the toolbar in that build; only the commands shown in the customization panel can be placed on the toolbar.
