Changing the language in the Microsoft 365 web apps is only part of the picture. There are three different places where language/region can be controlled, and all of them must align to get English as the default and for most communications.
- Set the Microsoft 365 display language
This controls Outlook on the web, OneDrive, SharePoint, Word/Excel/PowerPoint online, etc.- Sign in to Microsoft 365 with the work or school account.
- Select Settings (gear icon) in the top corner.
- Choose Change your language.
- Under Display language, select English (United States) (or the preferred English variant).
- Optionally set the Time zone and time formats.
- Save the changes.
- Select Settings > Microsoft 365 settings.
- Open the Settings tab.
- Select Language and time zone, choose English, and select Save.
- Set personal language and region in the profile
This affects SharePoint and some profile‑driven experiences.- On any SharePoint or Microsoft 365 site, select the name or picture at the top.
- Select My Microsoft 365 profile > Update your profile.
- At the bottom of Edit your profile, select the here link.
- In Edit Details, select the ellipsis (…) > Language and Region.
- Set the language to English and region to United States (or preferred region).
- Select Save all and close.
- If an admin manages org‑wide language
If this is a business/education tenant and the sign‑in page or some services still show Korean, the organization’s default language may still be Korean. A global admin can change this:- Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- Go to Settings > Org settings > Organization profile.
- Select Organization information.
- Under Preferred language, choose English for the organization.
- Save.
- About Microsoft account security emails
Security and verification emails (passcodes, account alerts) are sent based on the primary Microsoft account’s language/region, which is controlled on the consumer Microsoft account profile. The exact steps for changing that profile language are not detailed in the provided material, but aligning all Microsoft 365 language and region settings to English as above is required; if the option to change language is missing, an administrator must do it.
After changing these settings, it can take some time (up to 24 hours for some web apps) before all Microsoft 365 experiences fully switch to English.
