Can't add new payment method

I am trying to update my payment method with a new card number and it keeps saying something in the fields is wrong. However, I have looked at every number, letter and space and it is correct. I removed my old expired payment method. I have tried adding PayPal and 3 different cards and nothing is working!

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

Kindly try the following workarounds according to Microsoft Agent | Moderator Prakhar_Khare, who answered a similar case: https://learn.microsoft.com/answers/questions/3193503/error-check-the-info-you-entered-it-doesnt-match-t?forum=windows-all&referrer=answers

"A few of the things you can check while entering the details:

    • Enter your name precisely as it appears on the card. Only include your middle initial if it appears on your card.
    • If this is a company card, enter the company name as both a first name and last name. For example, if the company name is "Contoso Shoes" split the company name into the first and last name fields.
    • If the company only has one name, for example, "Contoso," enter the company name in both the first and last name fields.
    • If you are asked to enter the address and it exceeds the Address 1 field, use the Address 2 field. Do not shorten or abbreviate your address.
    • The card number and type cannot be edited, so if you make a mistake, you'll need to add a new one with the correct information. Other credit card information can be edited, such as billing address and expiration date.

However, if you are still facing issues while adding a new payment method, we have a dedicated accounts & billing support team that can assist you better with the issue. https://support.microsoft.com/contactus/ "

When all cards and PayPal fail to validate, the issue is usually with how the payment details are being accepted or with bank/security checks, not the specific card.

Try the following steps in order:

    1. Verify the payment method type and region
    • Make sure the payment method is supported in the country/region of the Microsoft account. Not all payment methods are supported in all regions.
    • If using a virtual or prepaid card, be aware these are often not accepted in Microsoft services and Azure scenarios.
    1. Add the payment method from the Microsoft account billing page
    2. Go to the Payment options page of the Microsoft account dashboard by signing in via the billing portal: Payment options (from the "Add a new bank or credit card" article).
    3. Select Add a new payment method.
    4. Carefully enter:
      • Cardholder name exactly as on the card
      • Card number
      • Expiration date
      • CVV/security code
      • Billing address, including postal/ZIP code
    5. If the card is not accepted, try entering the postal code with and without spaces, as suggested.
    6. Check for common validation blockers
    • Ensure the card or bank account is active and has sufficient funds.
    • Confirm the billing address (street, city, state, ZIP/postal code) matches what the bank has on file.
    • If using PayPal, ensure the PayPal account has a confirmed bank account or credit card as a funding source; otherwise it cannot be added.
    1. If the form still reports “something is wrong”
    • Some banks require additional identity or fraud checks before allowing online or recurring payments. Check for:
      • SMS/app verification requests from the bank
      • Security holds or declined online transactions
    • Contact the bank/issuer and ask if they are blocking Microsoft or online recurring charges.
    1. If none of the above works
    • There may be an account-specific or backend validation issue. Use the Microsoft account billing support path to have support review the account and payment attempts, especially since multiple valid cards and PayPal are failing.
