A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Dear @Hafsa H,
Thank you for sharing the details. I understand how frustrating this is, especially when the document is important and you’ve already tried several recovery steps. Therefore, could you please confirm these questions below to help me diagnose the issue more effectively:
- May I please double confirm if the account in question is a Microsoft 365 educational account which is provided by your college/institution?
- Are you still able to sign in to this account? When you try to open that OneDrive location, do you see any error message?
- About when was the account deleted or deactivated (for example, a few days ago, a few weeks ago, or months ago)?
- Did you ever share the file with anyone else or email it to yourself, or was it only stored in that account?
- If possible, please kindly share the screenshot to help me narrow down the issue.
If the account is still showing under your OneDrive storage places, first, try to open that OneDrive location directly from your iPad. Tap it and see what happens.
Next, open the Word app on your iPad, go to Open > Recent, and scroll carefully. Sometimes the document still appears there even if it’s not obvious in OneDrive. If you see it, try opening it and resaving a copy to another account immediately.
You should also check the Files app on your iPad, especially the Recent section or search bar. If the document was ever saved locally or briefly cached, a copy might still exist there.
If a school account is deactivated or deleted, the OneDrive data is usually not removed immediately. It is kept for a limited retention period, and during that time an IT administrator can still access or restore the account and its files.
In your situation, the best way is to contact your school’s IT support or helpdesk as soon as possible. Explain clearly that you need to recover an important document stored in OneDrive. Provide them with your full account email address and any details you remember about the file. If the account is still within the retention period, they may be able to restore the account or retrieve the file for you.
If you do not know who your IT Admin is, please follow this guide: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin?
Note: Please understand that as a forum moderator, my role is to provide general guidance and troubleshooting support. I don’t have access to internal systems or backend tools, and I appreciate your understanding of these limits.
I hope the information shared helps point you in the right direction. Please try the steps above and let me know if they work. If not, we can continue working together to narrow this down.
The first response may not always resolve the issue right away, but with your help and more details, we can work toward a solution.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'm looking forward for your reply.
