As adised there is no "Editor" on my ribbon ao not "Editor Settings" there either. This is causing severe problems. Please expedite response. Many thanks.

Could you please let me know your current Outlook version and build? You can check this by going to Outlook > About Outlook.

It appears that you’re using the latest version of New Outlook for Mac, same as on my side.
Please check the following setting:
Go to System Settings > Keyboard > Text Input (or Text) and make sure Auto-Capitalization is turned on.
Give it a try and let me know if this helps.
