A family of Microsoft products that enable users to capture, organize, and reuse notes electronically.
Dear @Powell Graham,
Good day, and I appreciate the clear explanation of your concern.
Copying content from a corporate OneNote to a personal OneNote is possible, but it depends on the notebook’s location and your organization’s security policies. Notebooks stored in OneDrive for work or school or SharePoint cannot be exported from OneNote for the web, and some organizations may also block sharing data outside the organization.
Here are some options you can consider:
Since you didn't specify whether you are using OneNote for desktop or OneNote on the web, I am sharing a set of steps that can help you verify the issue across all scenarios:
Option 1: Save a copy of the entire notebook to OneDrive Personal (OneNote desktop app)
Open the OneNote desktop app on windows.
Sign in with your work or school account.
In the left pane, select the corporate notebook you want to copy.
Select File, then choose Save a Copy.
When prompted for the destination, select OneDrive Personal and sign in with your personal Microsoft account.
If you prefer, you can also choose This PC first to create a local backup.
Enter a notebook name and select Save.
Once completed, the notebook will sync to your personal OneDrive and open under your personal OneNote account.
Option 2: Move or Copy sections into a Personal notebook (OneNote desktop app)
If saving a full copy of the notebook is not possible or you only need specific content, copying section by section is a reliable alternative.
Open your corporate notebook in OneNote (desktop or web).
Make sure you also have a destination notebook created in your personal OneDrive and opened in the same app.
Right-click a section tab in the corporate notebook.
Select Move or Copy.
Choose your personal notebook as the destination and confirm.
Repeat these steps for each section you want to keep.
This method gives you more control and often works even when full notebook copying is restricted.
Option 3: Export to PDF for a read-only archive
If your goal is only to keep an offline, read only record and tenant policies prevent copying or moving content, exporting notes to PDF is an alternative.
Open the page or section you want to keep in OneNote.
Select File, then Export.
Choose PDF as the file format and save it to your computer.
This option is best for reference purposes and does not allow editing or syncing like a OneNote notebook.
Option 4: If you are using OneNote on the web only
Open the corporate notebook in OneNote on the web.
Open your personal notebook separately (in another browser profile or session).
Copy the page content and paste it into the personal notebook.

- If you are blocked by organizational policy
If you are unable to save to OneDrive Personal or move content outside your organization, this is likely due to external sharing or data protection policies set by your company.
In that case, reaching out to your IT administrator would be the next step. They can confirm whether copying personal notes out of the corporate tenant is permitted and whether any exceptions can be granted.
