hotmail calendar not showing up in Android Google Calendar app

Hi,

I just got the base Samsung S26.  I have 2 Microsoft accounts that I used for calendar.

I set up Outlook app on the phone.  In the setting, I enabled syncing for Calendar for both Microsoft accounts: 1 outlook and 1 hotmail.

In Samsung Calendar app, I can see both calendars.

In Google Calendar app, I can only see the outlook.com account.  The one missing is hotmail

Is there any issue that I need to resolve to make this work?  I assumed hotmail and outlook.com are all the same these days but is there any actual difference?

Thanks

    Hi redhonker

I understand why this is confusing, especially since the Outlook.com account shows normally, while the Hotmail account does not.

Another important point from Microsoft is that calendar and contacts will not sync if an account is set up as IMAP or POP. If you re-add the Hotmail account, it needs to be added as the normal Outlook.com / Exchange ActiveSync type so calendar data is available.

Since Samsung Calendar can already see both calendars, Outlook is already exporting the Hotmail calendar to the Android calendar provider. Please try the following steps:

    1. In Outlook for Android, go to Settings.
    2. Tap the Hotmail account that is not syncing correctly.
    3. Select Reset Account.
    4. If that does not help, remove only that Hotmail account from Outlook and add it back again, making sure it is added as Outlook.com/Exchange, not IMAP/POP

For more details, you can see this official guide: Can't sync calendar and contacts with my phone or tablet

Please feel free to let me know how it goes. I truly appreciate your time and understanding.

Hotmail and Outlook.com accounts are both Microsoft accounts and use the same backend service; the difference in address (hotmail.com vs outlook.com) does not by itself prevent calendar sync.

Based on the provided information, the behavior is app-specific: Samsung Calendar can see both calendars, but Google Calendar only shows one. The available guidance focuses on ensuring that the calendar is actually enabled and syncing on the device; if one app can see it, the account and sync are generally working.

To troubleshoot using the documented steps:

    1. Confirm the Hotmail calendar is enabled in Outlook for Android
      • In Outlook for Android, go to the Calendar tab.
      • Tap the menu button in the top left.
      • Make sure the Hotmail calendar is checked. Only calendars enabled here appear when choosing availability and are exposed for use by other apps.
    2. Verify the account type and sync settings on the device
      • For Microsoft accounts to sync calendar properly to device-level calendar providers, they must be added as Exchange/Exchange ActiveSync, not IMAP/POP.
      • On Samsung devices, go to Settings > Accounts > Exchange (or the Microsoft account entry) and tap the Hotmail account.
      • Ensure Sync Calendar is enabled. If the account is listed as IMAP, remove it and re-add it as Exchange ActiveSync or Exchange so that calendar data is available to apps like Google Calendar.
    3. If the Hotmail account is currently added only inside the Outlook app
      • Some apps (including Google Calendar) read calendars from the system account store, not directly from the Outlook app.
      • Add the Hotmail account under Android Settings > Accounts as an Exchange/Exchange ActiveSync account so that it becomes a system calendar source, then check Google Calendar again.
    4. If problems persist
      • For work/school Microsoft 365 or Exchange accounts, contact the Microsoft 365 admin or technical support.
      • For Outlook.com/Hotmail accounts and Outlook app issues, contact Microsoft support as documented.
