Is there a way to turn off the "New Editor" on Outlook for mac?

My outlook for mac (16.109) has a new editor for writing emails. This editor makes outlook unusable when writing non-English emails. I have to effectively write emails in Word now before pasting them in outlook.

The main issue is that language detection is broken: if the interface language is set to English, it assumes all the emails you write are in English. If you write a non-English email, this has a number of side effects:

  • Almost all words are underlined in red.
  • It autocorrects valid non-English words to English words.

To make matters worse, there are 2 additional bugs:

  • The new editor ignores the spelling and grammar settings. I disabled checking spelling and grammar as I type and I disabled autocorrect, but it keeps doing this.
  • The menu item to manually pick a language does nothing.

Does anyone know a way to disable this new editor?

    Hi @Bart Mesuere

Can you please verify if you are using the beta channel (Insider version) of New Outlook for Mac? You can check this in Help > Check for Update > Advanced > Update Channel.

    User's image

If you are using Beta channel, this channel is designed for those who want to use the newest preview builds to identify issues and provide feedback about preview features still in development, and don't mind the bit of risk involved in using unsupported builds.

In conclusion, this beta version is designed to collect feedback from users. You can provide the feedback via Microsoft 365 Insider | Microsoft Community Hub or in Help > Feedback to provide feedback.

Contact support within Outlook screenshot one

You can also consider uninstalling the beta version and reinstall Current channel version (which is more consistent and stable) via Update history for Office for Mac - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn

I look forward for your reply.
