We created an account, I'm verifying it, it won't let me add an additional payment method. I'm trying to write to support, but nothing from there either. It doesn't work with a regular MasterCard. It works with a Revolut, but it's not a company card.User's image

Hello,

Thank you for using our Microsoft Advertising Learn Q&A Platform!

It seems that you're struggling with adding additional payment methods. I hope the response and resources provided here can be of use to you.

There are several reasons a payment method might not be valid for your account. Some MasterCard-branded credit cards require a PIN entry, which Microsoft Advertising does not support. If your card requires a PIN, you will need to use another card. Additionally, payment methods may be listed as "Other Payment Methods" if they are not valid for your account due to account type, currency, or country restrictions. Only users with full permissions (Super Admins) can add, edit, or delete a payment method. If you continue to have issues, check that your card is authorized for online purchases and automatic billing, and ensure your account settings and customer location are acceptable for the payment method. Please see the following help resources for further information:

Microsoft Advertising doesn't accept cards that require you to enter a PIN/security verification when making a payment. Use a different credit card or form of payment. A card that requires a dynamic password or PIN for online transactions cannot be used with Microsoft Advertising. The system does not support cards that require manual input of a PIN or dynamic password for payment authorization. You will need to use a different card that does not require this type of security verification.

We accept American Express, Discover Network, MasterCard, and VISA. Prepaid cards can only be used to fund prepay accounts. We do not accept cards that require you to enter a PIN (debit cards) when making a payment. Some countries require additional security verification or two-factor authentication in order to process payments. Microsoft may use information provided by the issuing bank or applicable payment network to confirm the information connected to the payment method remains current.

If you would like to discuss anything account specific, feel free to respond to my private message. I will be more than happy to investigate your individual case with the help of our billing experts.

    Kind regards,

How do I know if there is a pin code? It requires a dynamic password when I add it. Is this a pin?

For a newly created account where adding a second payment method fails with a generic error, use these checks and workarounds based on Microsoft’s payment-method rules:

    1. Verify card and tenant country/region
      • The credit or debit card must be issued in the same country/region as the account/tenant.
      • If the MasterCard is from a different country/region than the account, it cannot be added. In that case, use a card or bank method issued in the same country/region.
    2. Validate card details exactly
      • Re‑enter card number, expiration date, name, and billing address exactly as on the statement.
      • Ensure city, state, and ZIP/postal code match the bank’s records. If the card is not accepted, try the postal code with and without spaces where applicable.
    3. Confirm funds and card status
      • Ensure the MasterCard is active, not expired, and has sufficient available funds.
      • If errors persist, contact the bank/issuer to check for security blocks or 3‑D Secure/strong customer authentication issues that might be rejecting Microsoft’s authorization.
    4. Check regional/payment-type support
      • Not all payment methods are supported in all regions. If Revolut works but the corporate MasterCard does not, the bank may be blocking online/foreign or recurring payments to Microsoft; the bank must remove that block.
    5. Try adding the method from the correct place
      • For a personal Microsoft account: go to the Payment options page and select Add a new payment method, then enter the card details.
      • For a business/Microsoft 365 tenant: sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Billing > Bills & payments > Payment methods, and select Add a payment method.
    6. If adding a payment method for a subscription specifically
      • Add or change it on the Services & subscriptions page for that Microsoft account, following the “change your Microsoft subscription payment method and options” guidance.
    7. When support/contact is required
      • If the portal repeatedly shows “We’ve encountered an error and can’t continue. Please contact support for further assistance,” and the above checks (country match, card details, bank verification) do not resolve it, the issue is likely account- or billing‑profile–specific and must be handled by Microsoft support using secure tools.
      • For business tenants, open a billing ticket from the Microsoft 365 admin center (Help & support) so the Billing team can review the payment profile and unblock or add the corporate card.

Because Revolut works, the Microsoft side is generally accepting payment methods; focus on:

    • Matching card country/region to the account.
    • Having the bank clear any security or merchant blocks for Microsoft/online recurring payments.
    • Using the correct Microsoft billing page (personal vs. business) and, if still blocked, engaging Microsoft billing support from there.
