Classic Outlook for Mac showing UTC TimeZone

Hello,

Helping our CEO with troubleshooting an issue in Outlook where created calendar events will show up in UTC TimeZone, despite having been set in Pacific Time Zone (UTC-8).

Environment

MacBook Air M4 running 26.3.1
Outlook Classic on 16.107 (26030937)
Apple Mail on iPhone 17 running 26.3.1

We have validated that the local time zone on his computer is PST as well as his web Outlook being set to UTC-8. This issue does not occur on Web Outlook. Please advise on how we can troubleshoot this.

One thing we noticed was that in Microsoft 365 settings, it was not set to Sync across Microsoft 365 so we will evaluate whether that resolved the issue.

Otherwise, please let us know if this issue is known and if there is a specific workaround.

Based on my testing, I have identified two situations that may cause a time zone mismatch.

1/ The time zone set in Outlook for Mac may differ from the time zone configured in Outlook on the web. These settings do not sync automatically, so it is important to confirm that the calendar time zone in Outlook on the web matches the time zone selected in Outlook for Mac.

2/ The calendar event may have been created in Apple Calendar using a different time zone and then synchronized to Outlook for Mac. In this scenario, the original time zone from Apple Calendar can influence how the event is displayed in Outlook.

As a temporary workaround, Outlook on the web can be used, as the event should follow the correct time zone while this behavior is being further investigated.

Thanks for the help. I have gotten feedback from the user that he already had that setting enabled.

The user only creates new events within Outlook Classic, and essentially drags the time block on his calendar to get it to show up. He showed me today how one of those events had that issue. So we'll still need some help with Outlook Classic, thanks!

Thank you for your update.

From what I have observed during testing so far, events that were created before a change to the Outlook calendar time zone setting do not automatically update after the setting is modified. In other words, the UTC time associated with existing events remains unchanged, even after the Outlook calendar time zone is updated. For example, an older event set to UTC would not automatically reflect UTC – 8 after the calendar time zone setting is changed.

With that in mind, may I clarify whether newly created events are still being saved with the UTC time zone, even though the Outlook calendar time zone is currently configured for UTC-8?

If that is the case, you may consider reinstalling Outlook for Mac as a next step. To do this, please download the updater package from the following page: Update history for Office for Mac - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn

Before removing the application, please ensure that you back up any local Outlook data. After reinstalling Outlook, check whether the behavior changes.

If reinstalling Outlook does not lead to an improvement, I strongly recommend reaching out to Microsoft Support through one of the following options:

1/ Contact Microsoft Support via Phone

Hi @Vergil-V , good question. Actually he already had those set to UTC-8 several months ago when this started happening. We reinstalled Outlook sometime back in January so this appears to be a software glitch with legacy Outlook.
