Hi, I am using New Outlook App on Mac and after I draft my email and use copilot to auto rewrite it, Copliot displays HTML code along with text, how do I stop getting the HTML code?

I have the same issue with Copilot on "new" Mac Outlook when replying to an email. The HTML code shows for the recipient but doesn't show when drafting or in the sent items. Example ".copilot-citation-indicator" shows when received (Windows classic Outlook).
From another post, this fixed the issue for us, roll back to 16.10:
-Open any Office app > Help > Check for Updates, then clear the checkbox for Automatically keep Microsoft Apps up to date
-Quit all Office apps
-Go to Applications, select Microsoft Outlook, and move it to Trash
-Install version 16.105 from this link: Update history for Office for Mac - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn
May need to add any email accounts again, we did with 365.

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
Based on your sharing, this issue happens because the email that you're composing is set to Plain text. In Plain text mode, Outlook cannot render formatting so any HTML that copilot generates will show up as html tags/code instead of formatted text. It is suggested to set the Message format in html for the best support and integration with Copilot.
However, you cannot change this setting directly in New Outlook for Mac desktop app since there is no option for to configure this feature in Settings (Command + ,) > Composing. You will need to sign in with your account into Outlook for the web in Safari > click the gear icon on the top right > Mail > Compose and reply > set format to HTML

Thank you Hendrix. I had already tried that, it did not work. I tried again today, but no luck. Also changing the Text format in Outlook Web, wont really change it in Outlook App on Mac? This was working perfectly fine until 2 days back, not sure what really changed. I have also tried clearing the cache, still doesnt work.

I have tried to reproduce the same behavior as you are experiencing with New Outlook desktop app on my Mac (MacOS Tahoe 26.3.1 with New Outlook version 16.107) but still can't gain more insights about this behavior. I have also tried with New Outlook on Windows device and I can confirm that changing the format in Outlook web settings does sync with the Outlook Desktop app settings, but it may need a short time to sync data between two platform.
Since it just stopped working recently starting two days ago, may I ask whether there is any update of Office or MacOS around that time? In the meantime, please try using Outlook web to see to confirm whether the issue also happens in the web version or not.

Thank you Hendrix, I am running Mac (MacOS Tahoe 26.3.1 with New Outlook version 16.106) and looks like the office update was pushed on 9th March and Copilot update was pushed on 11t March. Not sure if its an issues with the outlook version or Copilot version. I can confirm that I do not have issue with Web outlook, the copilot auto rewrite works just perfectly fine and throws output in clear text (no HTML code display).

I suspect this is an issue arise from incompatibility in new updates for MacOS environment between Copilot Draft and Outlook desktop app. I have also researched through Microsoft product help and other official information sources but up to now, there is no Microsoft help article or announcement found and also no troubleshooting guidance addressing this issue.
I strongly recommend submitting in-app feedback so that your experience can be formally logged with our engineering team. You can do this from Excel > Help > Feedback or go to Microsoft 365 Feedback Hub > send feedback.
In the meantime, since Outlook web app still works properly, I suggest you can consider temporarily using Outlook web version to prevent any inconveniences or trouble this issue may have caused to your workflow.
For now, I highly recommend upvoting this answer as well. That way, other users who encounter the same question will see the clarification, and more of them may report similar problem, helping to bring attention to the request. We are having this exact same issue but using Windows Outlook client and Copilot Premium. I confirmed that the user is already composing in HTML. It doesn't happen every time. In our testing, it happened when she had a date in the reply, "April 30th". Without the date, it worked OK. The rewrite looked fine in preview but after she clicks "Apply" it changed the reply to:
It is definately a HTML issue, because when I pasted this here originally as text, your web interface converted it to look correct. This user is using "New Outlook" with Reading Pane, replying directly from the reading pane. Highlighting the text, clicking the small Copilot pencil/star icon to the left of the text, clicking Auto Rewrite, then clicking Replace. Once the Replace text is added to the email, it changes to the hash code.
Anyone on MacOS, we rolled back to New Outlook 16.105, and so far, no more instances of the issue.

In New Outlook for macOS and Outlook on the web, Copilot’s Draft with Copilot feature does not support messages composed in plain text. When a message is in plain text, HTML formatting can appear as visible tags instead of being rendered, which matches the behavior described.
To stop seeing HTML code when Copilot rewrites the message, switch the compose format to HTML before or while using Copilot:
Once messages are composed in HTML, Copilot’s output should render as formatted text instead of showing raw HTML tags.
If Copilot is still not behaving correctly after switching to HTML, contact the organization’s IT admin to verify Copilot configuration and Outlook version, as Copilot availability and behavior can depend on tenant and app version.
