    Hello none

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A Forum, and I’m sorry for the delayed reply.

I am so sorry to hear this. I know how incredibly stressful it is to lose eight hours of hard work, especially when you're certain you saw it saving.

Based on your description, I assume you are using Word on the Web, is that correct? Please let me know if you were actually using the desktop application on your Mac instead.

If you are using the web version and cannot find the version history anywhere, please try the following steps:

    • Search by Date in OneDrive: Navigate to My Files in your OneDrive. Instead of searching by the file name, change the view to sort by Modified (Newest to Oldest). Look specifically for any files created or modified on February 20, 2026. Sometimes sync issues cause files to be renamed to "Document" or "Untitled", check if there are any "strange" or unfamiliar filenames from that date and try opening them.
    • Check Both Recycle Bins: Please check your OneDrive Recycle Bin. If you don't see it there, scroll to the very bottom of that page and click on the link for the "Second-stage recycle bin". In many Education accounts, files that "vanish" during a sync error can end up there.

    • A Note on Incognito Mode: When you were taking those notes, were you using Private/Incognito mode on your browser? If you use an Incognito window and happen to close the tab before the system can perform a "Final Sync," the data can unfortunately be lost because Word on the Web relies heavily on the active session.

If the file still does not appear, please provide a few more details so I can investigate further:

    • Your specific macOS version.

    • The Office/Microsoft 365 version you are using if you're using desktop apps.

Looking forward to your reply so we can try to track this down.
