I understand your Word document on iPad closed unexpectedly, and now it won’t open (you see “Can’t open file / Sorry, something went wrong”). You also mentioned the document only appears inside the Word app (Search/Recent) but you can’t find it on other devices.
To better assistance, could you please confirm following information:
- Does your account use a personal account (@outlook.com/@hotmail.com), or is it a work/school account (like @company.com)?
- Where was the file originally saved, OneDrive, iCloud Drive, or “On my iPad”?
- Can you sign in to the same storage account on the web (OneDrive/iCloud) and see the file there?
- Did this start right after sharing/renaming the file, or signing out/in?
In the meantime, I recommend these steps below (in order):
1/ Check OneDrive on the web (if you use OneDrive)
Sign in OneDrive on web and check My files and also the Shared area
Check Recycle Bin and restore the file if it’s there.
2/ Restore a previous version (if the file exists but won’t open)
In OneDrive online, right‑click the file > Version history and restore an earlier version.
3/ If the file was saved locally or to iCloud Drive
- Check “Recently Deleted” in the iPad Files app: Open Files > Browse > Recently Deleted. If you see the document, select it and tap Recover (items stay here up to 30 days).
- Search for the file in Files (local storage) > Open Files and check On My iPad (and any “Word” folder if present), then use Search > Also check Recents in Files
