Urgent Advice Please I have shared my subscription with a family user who has 365 installed already. Does he have to reinstall 365 ?

He has just setup a replacement computer and has all programs installed from original computer. Opening existing documents he is told he can not edit or save, and needs to sign in or take a new subscription. What is going on?

Does he have to install 365? I am afraid that will be a new subscription? There is no advice of this on the family share web pages. Urgent advice please.

When a family member has Microsoft 365 installed on a new computer, they do not necessarily need to reinstall the software if they are sharing a subscription. However, they must ensure that they are signed in with the correct Microsoft account associated with the shared subscription. If they are encountering messages that they cannot edit or save documents, it may indicate that they are not logged into the correct account or that the subscription is not recognized on the new device.

To resolve this issue, the family member should:

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 applications (like Word or Excel) using the Microsoft account that is part of the family sharing plan.
    2. Check if the subscription is active by going to their Microsoft account page.
    3. If the account is correct and active, they may need to update the license in the application by going to Files > Account > Update License.

Reinstalling Microsoft 365 should not be necessary unless there are persistent issues that cannot be resolved through these steps. Reinstalling would not create a new subscription but would simply reinstall the software, which can sometimes help with activation issues.
