OneNote Not Recording Audio from Bose Bluetooth Headset

Hello,

I am experiencing an issue with audio recording in Microsoft OneNote when using my Bose Bluetooth headset during Microsoft Teams meetings.

The headset is successfully connected to my laptop and functions correctly for Teams meetings; however, when I attempt to record audio in OneNote for note-taking and transcription purposes, no audio is captured.

My current OneNote settings are configured as follows:

  • Audio & Video Settings → Audio Recording Settings
    • Device: Bose Sound System Headset
    • Input: Headphones (Bose Sound System)
    • Output: Headphones (Bose Sound System)

Despite these settings, OneNote does not record any audio from the headset.

Could someone please assist with troubleshooting this issue or advise on any additional configuration changes required?

It is not possible for OneNote to capture audio from a Bose Bluetooth headset while Teams is actively using that same Bluetooth microphone during a meeting. Bluetooth headsets only provide a single hands‑free audio channel for the microphone, and Teams takes exclusive control of that channel as soon as you join a call. Because OneNote requires direct access to an available microphone input, it cannot record any audio when the headset’s mic is already locked by Teams.

This limitation isn’t specific to Bose devices or OneNote, it’s a constraint of how Bluetooth hands‑free profiles work on Windows. Once Teams engages the headset’s hands‑free mode, no other application can access the mic at the same time.
