I have been in contact already about this and have recieved no help. My old phone is broken and I have to keep trying to use it through a broken screen to authenticate log ins to my university email as there is an error when I try to login to the authentication app on my new phone. This problem has remained for a week. I can not access my emails on my new phone.

    Dear @40041957

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum. We are happy to assist.

If you are using school account provided by your organization, please contact your IT or admin team and request that they reset the MFA methods for the affected users.

Below is a step-by-step solution tailored for your IT admin to follow to reset MFA for your account

    1. Navigate to Microsoft 365 Admin Center, you can click Identity at the sidebar.

Microsoft 365 Admin Center website: Microsoft 365 admin center

It will lead you to Microsoft Entra Admin Center

Next Select Users > Click All users

Click on to the affected account name (your account)

    User's image

    1. Select "Authentication Methods"
    2. Click "Require re-register multifactor authentication"

Next time the user sign in, the system will require them to set up a new authentication method. By using this, the affected user can re-set up the right authentication method.

Beside that, since you mentioned that you have already reached out but haven’t received any assistance, could you please confirm whether you contacted your school or Microsoft support?

I hope this information is helpful. If you need any further assistance, please feel free to reach out. We are here to help. Thank you very much for your understanding and cooperation.

To add your phone to the authentication app on your new device, you will need to register and set up multifactor authentication (MFA) on your new phone. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Use SMS or Call-Based MFA: If your old phone is broken and you cannot use it, ensure that you have access to the phone number associated with your account. You can use SMS or call-based MFA to receive verification codes.
    2. Set Up MFA on New Device: Follow the instructions provided by your university or IT department to set up MFA on your new device. This may involve logging into your account and selecting the option to add a new authentication method.
    3. Contact IT Support: If you continue to experience issues, it's advisable to reach out to your university's IT support for assistance. They can help you reset your MFA settings or guide you through the process of setting it up on your new phone.

Make sure to have your account information ready when contacting support to expedite the process.
