Pop-ups in your Hotmail (Outlook) email account may be blocked due to browser settings that prevent pop-ups or cross-site tracking. When you access certain features in Outlook, such as the Sales app, an authentication pop-up window is required. If your browser is set to block these pop-ups, you will encounter issues.

To resolve this, you can adjust your browser settings to allow pop-ups and cross-site tracking. Here are general steps for popular browsers:

    1. Microsoft Edge: Allow pop-ups from the Office 365 website in the browser settings.
    2. Google Chrome: Enable pop-ups for the Office 365 site in the site settings.
    3. Safari: Disable the "Prevent cross-site tracking" option in the privacy settings.

After making these changes, refresh the page and try accessing your email again to see if the issue is resolved.

Hello craig fraser, thanks for posting this in the community.

Hotmail/Outlook.com itself does not block pop ups. When pop ups fail to appear, the cause is usually the browser’s built‑in pop up blocker, browser extensions such as ad blockers or privacy tools, security software, or in some cases Microsoft account privacy settings.

To allow pop ups in your browser, open Microsoft Edge and go to Settings, then open Cookies and site permissions, then Pop-ups and redirects. In the Allow section, add the following sites: https://outlook.com https://mail.live.com https://outlook.live.com After adding the sites, restart the browser. If you have Google Chrome installed, perform the same steps there as well.

If the issue persists, try clearing your browser cache. In Edge or Chrome, go to Settings, then Privacy and security, then Clear browsing data. Clear cookies along with cached images and files, then restart your browser.

If you are using any antivirus or security software, it may also silently block pop ups. Check the Web Protection, Safe Web, or Anti‑Spam settings in your security software and add Outlook.com to the allowed or trusted list.

    Kind regards,

    John Oli
