The location of my Surface 12" is showing 9 Jackson Avenue, Mickleover, DE3 9AS, England, United Kingdom. How do I correct this? I have set up the correct default location.

To correct the location of your Surface device linked to your Microsoft Account, you may need to ensure that the location settings on your device are configured properly. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Check Location Settings: Ensure that the location services are enabled on your Surface device. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location and make sure that location services are turned on.
    2. Set Default Location: If you have already set the correct default location, verify that it is saved correctly. You can do this by going to Settings > Accounts > Your info and checking the address listed.
    3. Update Location: If the location is still incorrect, you may need to manually update it. Open a web browser and go to a service that uses location data, like Bing Maps, and check if it reflects your current location.
    4. Restart Device: Sometimes, simply restarting your Surface can help refresh the location settings.

If the issue persists after following these steps, you may want to contact Microsoft support for further assistance.

Hello Alistair Clements, welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

The location shown in your Microsoft Account comes from Windows Location Services, not from the default location you set manually. This usually rely on Wi‑Fi/IP‑based geolocation (and not GPS). As a result, the account map can sometimes show another nearby address if the network’s geolocation database is outdated. You can’t manually change this map pin, although you can partially help Windows update its location by enabling Location Services.

    Hi @Alistair Clements

It can depend on the app. For example, Teams has their own setting. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/set-your-work-location-in-microsoft-teams-6c14a0f5-3cd6-427d-b1d2-aa0365aebf88 What situation causes or presents the wrong address?

    Sincerely,

What you’re seeing is IP-based location, not GPS and can’t be manually corrected, even though you set the default location in Windows.
