Hello,

I am using an Azure for Students subscription for my learning. I am trying to create a Microsoft Entra External ID (Azure AD B2C) tenant, but I am getting a region restriction error saying that the resource cannot be created in the allowed regions for my subscription.

Here is the exact message displayed:

Azure for Students restricts which regions you can deploy resources to. Typically, you are restricted to five different regions, and these vary for each person.

Please navigate to Azure Policy -- Authoring -- Assignments using the link below:

https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_Policy/PolicyMenuBlade/~/Assignments

Click on assignment named Allowed resource deployment regions

Examine Allowed locations Parameter value for list of regions, similar to below (regions in screenshot are different than yours):

The regions shown in your Parameter value are the ones you are allowed to deploy resources to. Please try to create the B2C resources in one of these regions and let me know the results.

Thanks Divyesh Govaerdhanan , for your response I tried this to find out the regions which are supported in my case but I need a country region to create a Microsoft Tenant B2c like india, us, Japan, Germany etc but the allowed parameters are ["austriaeast","eastasia","koreacentral","centralindia","uaenorth"] and these are not available as an option at the time of creating the tenant. Please suggest what can I do.

Thank you for the follow-up,

Your student subscription’s allowed locations (austriaeast, eastasia, etc.) do not line up with the geo value used by Entra External ID (for example, “Asia” / “Europe”),

So the built-in policy denies the creation of the External ID / B2C tenant,

And you don’t see a matching option in the Country/Region dropdown that would satisfy the policy.

Unfortunately, with an Azure for Students subscription:

You cannot edit or remove the “Allowed resource deployment regions” policy yourself.

As you can’t change the policy on a student subscription, the practical workaround is:

Create or use a Pay-As-You-Go or other standard Azure subscription (your own, or one provided by your institution).

In that subscription, there is usually no such restrictive “Allowed resource deployment regions” policy, so you can pick a Country/Region like India, US, Japan, Germany when creating the External ID / B2C tenant.

Once the external tenant is created, you can still use it from your apps regardless of which subscription created it.
