I use Word for my uni assignments and since Saturday I haven’t been able to use the Word app at all. It keeps freezing and buffering, taking ten minutes to spell out a single word. I’ve resorted to using my PC at home but I need to go to my classes and use my iPad and nothing is working. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app, checked for updates on both the app and my iPad, restarted my iPad. Nothing words

    Dear @Camryn Dao,

Good day! Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum!

Based on your description, I understand that you’ve had trouble using Word on your iPad since Saturday. It’s been freezing and very slow, even after reinstalling, updating, and restarting. You need it for your university work, but it’s still not functioning properly.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by this issue. Thank you for taking the time and effort to do all the standard troubleshooting steps.

After researching, I have found that many users have reported similar issues with Word on iPad.

However, this is not yet on Microsoft 365 Admin Center Service health.

Therefore, I strongly recommend reaching out to your organization/university's IT Admin for them to be acknowledged of this matter and Report an issue on Service health so that the product team is aware of this issue and investigate further.

Also, it would be noticed by the product team using the in-app Feedback option. From the Home screen in Word for iOS, select your user account icon in the top left-hand corner, then select Help & Feedback to provide feedback.

For now, the temporary workarounds that I recommend are:

    • Sign in to your account and use Word online via Safari or Chrome
    • Use your PC to access Word desktop app instead

Once again, I'm very sorry for the inconvenience that this issue has caused.

I appreciate your patience and understanding as we address this issue.

Kindly let me know when there are updates or if you need further assistance. Any updates you’re able to share would be really helpful. I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing how things are going!

Thank you for your time and patience.

This is a known issue with the latest Word for iPad updates. There is no permanent fix at the moment. Continue to keep the app and iPad updated, and use the in-app feedback feature to report the problem to Microsoft. For now, relying on your PC is the best workaround until a patch is released.
