OneNote crashes every time I try to open the “Insert Meeting Details" pane

Every time I click "Insert" -> "Meeting Details...", OneNote crashes, without warning.

This has been happening since Thursday of last week.

Things I've tried:

  • Followed a help article to delete cache, but couldn't find the right folder in my finder (Library -> Containers -> com.microsoft.onenote)
  • Uninstall & reinstall OneNote
  • Computer shutdown & restart

Hi @Jacqui Curry

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how frustrating it must be when OneNote keeps crashing every time you try to open the Meeting Details pane on your Mac and I'm sorry for any inconveniences this has caused.

Since you’ve already tried reinstalling OneNote, restarting your Mac, and attempting to clear the cache without success, here are a few additional steps that may help:

1.Clear Office cache manually

If you can’t find com.microsoft.onenote.mac under ~/Library/Containers/, please open Finder > Go > Library > Group Containers and look for the folder: UBF8T346G9.Office > Move this folder to Trash and then restart OneNote. This will clear its cached data.

2.Try OneNote on the web

As a temporary workaround, you can sign in at "https://onenote.com" and see if inserting Meeting Details works there. This helps confirm whether the issue is app-specific or account-related.

3.Roll back to an earlier version:

If you are already on the latest OneNote version, please try rolling back to version 16.98 or 16.99 and check whether the issue persists.

You can refer to this article: Update history for Office for Mac - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn

Note: Please turn off automatic updates first, otherwise the latest build will reinstall immediately.

If the issue still persists after trying these steps, could you please let me know:

-Which version of macOS and OneNote you are currently using on your device

-Whether your OneNote app was downloaded from the App Store or installed directly from Microsoft

-A screenshot of the error message you are seeing (with any personal information removed)

This will help me better understand what’s happening and provide more accurate guidance.

Please understand that our initial reply may not always immediately resolve the issue. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

I'm looking forward to your response.

My issue resolved when I made the most recent update to Outlook (16.101) and One Note (16.101)

I'm seeing the same issue. The latest version seems to have introduced a new bug. :)

Using the browser version as a workaround in the meantime.

I have the same problem after OneNote 16.101 (25091314) update.

Tried deleting cache, uninstalling, fresh install, reboot. Nothing worked.

Reverted to OneNote Version 16.100.4 (25090553) and it's working again.

    Outlook Version 16.101.1 (25092124).

    macOS Version 26.0 (25A354)

    Thanks

The issue is on 3 Macs in my organisation. The problem started last week, likely after the last update. Insert Stickers also causes OneNote to crash.
