Why there is always an underline on the "Location" in the meeting?

Can you help me.

I have a user here who has some issues where each time she tries to create an appointment, she keys in the location (without being underlined), but once she saves it, and she reopens, the location that she keys in automatically will change to being underlined.

No matter what she types without @ or with @ or even just test, it will be underlined.
Below pictures for your reference.

Picture 1 below shows she types "test" and press "save and close", you can see clearly there is no underline.

Picture 2 below, shows once she reopens the saved appointment, it automatically changes to underlined.

I have tried a lot ways from the web but none works.
Like unchecks "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks" on AutoFormat Tab and uncheck "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks" on Autoformat as you type tab, and uncheck border lines on "apply as you type".

Nothing works.

I uninstalled the office from 64 bit to 32 bit and vice versa.
I did online repair.

I used other laptop; with different office versions it is still the same. It means that it doesn't really matters what office versions or bits you use, there is something that needs to be change in the settings but i am not sure what.

Take note this doesn't happen to her own calendar but to the calendar that her boss delegated to her.

Means she needs to create an appointment for her boss in her boss's calendar, and this bug will appear.

Appointments created to her own calendar doesn't have this underline issue.

Appreciate if you can investigate and assist on this asap.

One more info, is where her old laptop doesn't have this issue.
She said few years ago, her previous IT helped her to change something, and this underline doesn't happen anymore, but she can't remember it and there is no way to get the solution again from the IT.

Now her new laptop has this issues, I tried giving her other laptops to sign it, it is still the same.

I tried asking my other colleagues to delegate to me his calendar and i create appointment on my other colleagues, it still have this underline issues.

Not sure what the previous IT get to do, but hopefully I can get some answers from this forum.

May I ask when you enter the location, does it pop up the suggested locations like in picture below?

I found that it will have underline if it links to a location.

I found this way to turn this off, you can head to File > Option > General > Privacy Settings > Disable optional connected experience.

The location field will no longer be underlined.

Hi Jayden,

I did try to turn off the connected experience too, it did work but it will compromise the features such as it will no longer prompt searching of rooms which the user still needs.

She mentioned in her old laptop she can search rooms and have suggested rooms that means the feature is turned on still in her old laptop.

It did prompt the location as below but i skipped it and did not select so the underline did not appear then only i press save & close.

However, if I reopen it, sometimes i need to reopen it a few times, then it will automatically change to underline.

May I ask which version of Outlook are you using? (Outlook 365 or 20,16, 2019, ...)

I tested on my Outlook 365, and I didn't meet this issue.

Have you tried clearing cache?

Press the Windows + R > Type %localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook > Find the RoamCache folder > Delete all files in it.

I am currently using this version. My colleagues which have encountered the issue, is using another version.

Mine is as below

and hers is as below.

I will try clearing cache in safe mode and update you again.

Please take note that it doesn't happen on your own outlook calendar. your own outlook calendar is fine.

Is the calendar that is delegated to you, in her case is her boss, when she create an appointment for example on her boss's calendar, the location will automatically be underlined.

Deleted all the files inside.

and restarted outlook a few times.

Then proceed to create again, still the same issue.

I have also just tested in safe mode.

It still shows as underlined in outlook.

I did some tests and noticed this.

I will have the underlined location field when the delegate permission is performed in the boss Outlook calendar.

When I gave delegate the permission in Exchange Admin Center (EAC), I didn't have the underline.

So, you need to remove the delegate permission in Outlook first, the go to EAC > Recipients > Mailboxes > Choose the user > Delegation.

From there, assign any permission you want.

Now the boss' calendar should appear under My calendars instead of Shared calendars.

Yes, it works,

I have removed her boss's calendar in "Shared Calendar" and the backend have added her so now her "My Calendar" is showing her boss's calendar.

By doing so, she can now create appointment without the underline.

However, this triggered another issue whereby removing the calendar from the "Shared Calendar" causes her boss's calendar disappears from her mobile outlook, where previously she is able to access and view it.

Previously she can access her boss calendar from the mobile and also create appointment without the underline.

Appreciate if you know the solution for this without compromising her view on her boss's calendar in mobile.

You can wait around 5 minutes for the server to update.

If it is over 5 minutes, try reset account in Outlook Settings > Account > Reset Account

Or sign out and in again.

I have tried but still not working and the boss's calendar won't appear.

I have tried resetting the account.

I have tried to remove the account and re-add.

i have also tried to uninstall the entire outlook app and reinstall and re-configure.
It did not work.

I have tried to check on the "Calendar" app on iPhone too, does not work either.

The boss calendar is missing after I removed the delegation from "Shared Calendar".

I have tried to re-add again her boss's calendar in the shared calendar, her boss's calendar immediately shows in both the "Outlook" app and "Calendar" app in iPhone.

and i also have tried to remove her boss's calendar in "Shared Calendar" in desktop Outlook,

Both her boss's calendar in "Outlook" and "Calendar" app disappears almost immediately.

Appreciate your advise on this.

I tried on my environment, and it doesn't appear, too.

It is quite strange. For the work around, you can share the calendar but with "can view all details" permission.

This will make the shared calendar to show up.

The delegation in EAC will help location field not being underlined.

I guess we have to combine these 2 methods.

You can remove the permission here.

Then go to Outlook web and share the boss' calendar again to her with "Can view all details"

I have removed the delegation and went on online web to share full details.

But it doesn't reflect on mobile outlook app still.

I have then reset the account and restarted multiple times, still not able to access.

In my case, it is auto-appeared.

When I added the boss's calendar using shared calendar in mobile outlook app, it works, and she can now access her boss calendar in mobile.

But this triggered the Outlook Desktop App to have the same in "Shared Calendar" desktop outlook app, which will cause the underline issue again.

In Classic Outlook, do you see 2 calendars or 1?

If there are 2 of them, please add the new appointment in My calendars.

If you add them through shared calendars, it will appear the underline

Yes, both appears, in "My Calendars" and also "Shared Calendars"

However, when I tick the boss's calendar from "My Calendar", the boss calendar from "Shared Calendar" will be automatically ticked as well, and vice versa.

Which unfortunately still cause the underline issue.

First, delete the shared calendar here.

After delete the share calendar, when you click my calendar, it will show up like this.

This will confirm that the calendar has been removed entirely.

Next, remove and add the account again. Close Outlook and open it again so it can take effect.

Now, go back to Outlook on your phone > Add shared calendar > Enter the name > Click Add.

Remember, do not add the shared calendar in Outlook Classic. Add it on your phone.

Do you mean to remove the user's account and not the boss?
Because she only has one account which is her own email address as the primary account.

Hi Jayden, I have then tried to add shared calendar only on the mobile apps as advised.

After restarting outlook on both mobile and laptop,

the boss's calendar will appear in "Shared Calendar" automatically and if i tick only on the boss calendar on "My calendar", the boss's calendar will also be automatically ticked in "Shared Calendar".

If i untick, both will untick and vice versa.

And this will still create the underline issue unfortunately.

I have now removed the calendar from the shared calendar in desktop outlook.

The email also disappears in mobile app.

Can I try to take another laptop to ask her sign in now since it is a new sign in without any prior configurations.

Then from there, I will add the boss's calendar using the mobile outlook app.

Theoretically the boss's calendar's will then appear in the shared calendar and I just tick the boss's calendar in my calendar and create the appointment.

Let me know again.
