Your bug is back. How about Microsoft actually fixes problems that they create?
Outlook searches showing as Org Explorer and no results
Has anyone ever experienced when you click into the 'search' field at the top of the outlook desktop client - version 2408 Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel that the drop-down menu to choose your search scope appears to the left of the search box but does not show 'current mailbox' or current folder etc it just shows Org Explorer and doesn't return any results - refer to the screenshot added.
Seems like a bug to me as it has since disappeared now, but org explorer is normally accessible via the left-hand pane and when you access it it has its own search field that opens up on the top right side of the org explorer page that loads within outlook.
Issue was - Click into search and see this instead of normal search scopes:
When loading Org Explorer within Outlook already has its own search field:
Why did it appear within the normal outlook search for a while - guessing it was an outlook bug?
Anyone else seen this?

2025-07-29T10:55:12.39+00:00 Hi @Steven
Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details about the issue you encountered with the Outlook search feature. I completely understand how frustrating it can be when the search dropdown menu behaves unexpectedly, especially when you're expecting familiar options like "Current Mailbox" or "Current Folder," but instead only see "Org Explorer" with no search results.
Based on your description and the screenshot you provided, this appears to be a temporary bug in the Outlook Desktop Client version 2408 (Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel). Occasionally, updates or internal glitches can cause certain UI elements to display incorrectly, such as the search scope dropdown showing unexpected options. It’s easy to see why this would be confusing, given that “Org Explorer” normally appears in its own pane with a separate search field, not within the main search bar.
The good news is that since the issue has resolved itself, it strongly suggests it was just a transient software glitch. These kinds of temporary display errors sometimes occur and often clear up on their own without requiring any specific action from you.
If you experience this issue again, here are a few quick steps that might help:
- Restart Outlook or your computer to reset the app’s state.
- Make sure Outlook is updated to the latest available version.
- Try resetting the search functionality or, as a last resort, create a new Outlook profile.
I'll also keep an eye out for any official updates or patches from Microsoft regarding this specific issue, and I'll be happy to share those with you if they become available.
In the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach out if you experience this again or if there's anything else I can assist you with. Your smooth experience with Outlook is important to us, and I'm here to help!
Wishing you a great day ahead.
