Problem using OneNote on Lenovo tablet with student license

I Hi,
I'm trying to use the Microsoft OneNote app on my Lenovo tablet. I'm signed in with a student license.

On my desktop computer, OneNote works perfectly. Other Microsoft 365 apps like Excel also work well on the tablet.

However, when I try to open OneNote on the tablet, I get an error message saying:
"Your school or work account needs to be fixed" (translated from Hebrew).
This happens even though I signed in successfully.

I tried changing settings in my Microsoft account, but nothing helped.
I’ve attached a screenshot of the error message (in Hebrew).

I would appreciate your help resolving this issue.

Thank you.

    Hi,

I checked with my school’s IT support, and they informed me that my license does not include access to email or cloud services — it only allows activation of the Office applications.

That would explain why I’m unable to use OneNote on my tablet.

Thank you for your quick response and for your support with Microsoft products.

    BR.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply

Based on your description, there are only two apps available: Reading Coach and Clipchamp. No OneNote, OneDrive, or any other Office apps are licensed. This indicates that your Student Account does not have a full license for OneNote or OneDrive.

    1. Verify your student account license type
    • Go to https://admin.microsoft.com (if you are an administrator).
    • Go to Users > Active users > select your account > Licenses and Apps.
    • Check if your account has:
      • Microsoft 365 A1 for Education
      • OneDrive for Business
      • Office Online (including OneNote Web App)
    • If not, you will need to contact your school IT administrator to get permissions.
    1. Request OneNote and OneDrive access
    • Send a request to your school IT department or Microsoft 365 administrator.
    • Ask them to grant OneNote and OneDrive permissions to your account.
    1. Check again after permissions are granted
    • After permissions are granted, sign back in to https://portal.office.com.
    • Check to see if OneNote and OneDrive appear in the list of apps.
    • Then, reopen OneNote on your tablet.

If you’re unsure who the Global Admin is within your organization, you can find guidance on locating them here: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support.

Please feel free to reply below if you have any update or further concern.

    Best regards,

    Hi,
Actually, when I log in to my Microsoft portal, I can only access two apps: Reading Coach and Clipchamp.
I’m unable to add or access any other apps — including OneNote.

Could this limited access be the reason OneNote isn’t working on my tablet?

    Dear משה_ש,

Thank you for raising your concern to Microsoft Support Community.

Based on your description, it may be because OneNote relies directly on OneDrive to open notebooks. If OneDrive access is broken or not granted, OneNote will not work.

    You can follow these steps:

    1. Check OneDrive access
    • On your tablet, open a browser and go to: https://portal.office.com
    • Sign in with your student account.
    • Open OneDrive. If you can't access it, that's why OneNote isn't working.
    1. Uninstall and reinstall OneNote
    • Uninstall OneNote.
    • Go to Settings > Apps > OneNote > Storage, select Clear cache and Clear data.
    • Re-download from the Google Play Store and sign in again.
    1. Sign in with Microsoft Authenticator
    • Download the Microsoft Authenticator app.
    • Sign in with your student account to support multi-factor authentication (MFA).
    1. Check device management

I really hope that the information I gave above was helpful to you. Please feel free to reply below and let me know if you have further concern on this matter.

    Best regards,
