I recently realized that there is an " Appear Offline" status in teams but I am not sure how it works. Can my organization still see my name in the participants list when i join the meeting with the " appear offline" status on? And if at all I don't join the meeting will my name be visible in the absentees and ' Request Others to Join' list?

Hi pachakutiq,

I'm Nik, an independent advisor here to assist you with this.

You can set "Appear offline" when you want to indicate others that you're not signed in to Teams, so will not be responding until you're back online. You'll still receive notifications if anyone messages you.

To answer your question related to the meeting - Yes, you will appear in meeting participation list if joined, and if not join in that case also you will be shown in absentees and ' Request Others to Join' list. Just that your presence status will show as "Appear offline", but that stops you from receiving and participating any activity in Teams.

I hope this helps!

Regards

Nik

Hi pachakutiq,

My name is Trust. Am a Teams user like you.

Appear offline is when you want to indicate that you're not signed in to Teams, so will not be responding until you're back online. You'll still receive notifications if anyone messages you.

What you need to know

  • The option allows you to seem to be offline while you're actively signed into Teams.
  • The feature should be useful when trying to work privately.

Hope this info is helpful.

Regards,
