Are you trying to reset the password for a Microsoft account or a local account?
Do this:
Go to https://account.microsoft.com on your phone or another device.
Sign in with the Microsoft account tied to your laptop.
Choose “Forgot my password” and follow the steps to verify with your phone.
After resetting, sign in on your laptop with the new password.
If another account is on the laptop, go to Settings > Accounts > Your info to remove it and add the correct Microsoft account.
