Since August 5, 2025 synchronization between Excel Online files has stopped working. The files are stored on OneDrive.

Good afternoon!

Since August 5, 2025, synchronization between Excel Online files has stopped working.

The .xlsx files are stored on OneDrive.

The issue affects many users.

When attempting to refresh links, the following errors occur:

→ "Server error"

→ "We couldn't get this value due to a server error"

Clearing cookies and cache does not help.

Please help resolve this issue!

An urgent solution is required!

    I greatly appreciate your support and that of Microsoft, and I am counting on you to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

    The problem was first discovered on August 5, 2025, on my main computer running Windows 11 24H2.

    Later, I tried performing the same actions on another personal computer running Windows 10, as well as on a friend's computer with Windows 11.

    The issue is identical across all devices.

    When opening files in the desktop version of Excel, links update correctly.

    For compatibility with Excel Online, I am not using any scripts, macros, or add-ins.

    The error appears specifically on the Excel Online page - «Server error», error symbol: an exclamation mark inside a yellow triangle.

    Today, an interesting behavior was observed:

    If I change the region setting in the Excel Online file, synchronization for that file starts working again!

    However, if I close the file and reopen it, synchronization stops—until I change the region setting once more.

    The specific region name doesn't matter; any region can be selected.

    I would be grateful for any help or guidance you can provide, including escalation to the technical team if necessary.

    How can this issue be resolved?

    Since the issue began on August 5, 2024, and you're seeing “Server error” when refreshing links, this appears to be a service-related problem on Microsoft’s end, likely affecting Excel Online’s link-refresh feature with OneDrive. As workaround is to open the Excel files in the desktop version of Excel then refresh or update the linked data manually and save the file and let OneDrive sync the updated version. This ensures continued work while Microsoft resolves the online sync issue.
