Frequently asked questions about using your MACC in Microsoft Marketplace

Find answers to frequently asked questions about Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment in Microsoft Marketplace.

What Microsoft Marketplace purchases contribute to my organization's Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC), and when does the purchase reflect toward my commitment?

Microsoft Marketplace purchases count toward your organization's MACC when they meet all of the following requirements:

  • The offer is Azure benefit-eligible at the time of purchase
  • The purchase is completed through the Azure portal
  • The purchase occurs during your organization's active MACC term

When those conditions are met, 100% of the pretax purchase amount is applied toward your commitment when Microsoft issues the invoice.

If I purchase an offer before it gains Azure benefit eligibility status, but then it gains Azure benefit eligibility status later, does the purchase apply to my MACC retroactively?

No, purchases made before an offer becomes Azure benefit eligible don't count toward your MACC retroactively. However, once the offer becomes eligible, any charges going forward (while your MACC is active) count toward your commitment.

Example: If the offer bills monthly, only the billing periods after it becomes eligible contribute to your MACC.

Can a Microsoft Marketplace purchase made before the Azure Consumption Commitment's effective date apply retroactively?

Microsoft Marketplace purchases or spend before the MACC's effective date don't contribute to the commitment. However, renewals of Azure benefit eligible solutions that occur after the MACC effective date contributes to the commitment. For example, if an Azure benefit eligible solution bills monthly, then billing for the months following the effective date contributes to the MACC.

How can I see which Microsoft Marketplace purchases contributed to my organization's Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC)?

To learn how to view progress toward your organization's MACC in the Azure portal, see Track your Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC).

Will a purchase of an Azure benefit eligible solution from Microsoft Marketplace decrement an Azure Prepayment that I purchased during my Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC) term?

Azure prepayment or Azure monetary commitment can't be used against purchases of Azure benefit eligible solutions sold by partners.

Do Azure benefit-eligible Microsoft Marketplace purchases made during the last month of my company's MACC contribute to my commitment?

Yes, however only the amount transacted in the last month and invoiced the following month contribute to the commitment. Future installment payments aren't eligible for MACC. For SaaS purchases, the Independent Software Vendor (ISV) must activate the subscription before the end of the MACC in order for the purchase to contribute to the commitment.

Does the MACC benefit apply to licenses used on-premises or in hybrid environments?

No, the MACC benefit only applies to licenses that are MACC eligible and primarily hosted in Azure. If a license is deployed in a hybrid environment or on-premises, it isn't eligible to contribute toward your organization's commitment.

If I cancel a Marketplace purchase and receive a refund for an Azure benefit eligible offer, what happens to the MACC?

For refunds involving Azure benefit eligible offers, the customer's MACC commitment, which was initially decreased by transacting the offer, will be replenished equivalent to the refunded amount after the refund is processed. The MACC commitment itself doesn't change.

If I bought an offer before it became Azure benefit eligible, will the earlier purchase count toward MACC later?

No. Purchases made before an offer becomes benefit eligible don't apply retroactively. However, future eligible charges would contribute after the offer is eligible and the customer has an active MACC, starting the following month.

Do eligible purchases made after the MACC effective date count toward MACC?

Yes, if the purchase meets the eligibility requirements and occurs during the MACC coverage period. For example, if a Microsoft Customer Agreement for Enterprise (MCA-E) supplemental order has a MACC effective date of June 1, but the customer reviews and checks out the proposal on June 10, and they transacted an Azure benefit eligible Marketplace offer on June 5, the system will apply the MACC decrement for that offer.

What should I expect if I move from EA to MCA-E?

When migrating from EA to MCA-E, any Azure benefit eligible offers previously purchased under the EA continues to decrement the customer's MACC on their MCA-E account, regardless of whether payments are made on a monthly or annual basis.

How is eligibility determined when MACC expiration occurs and post transaction Meter-based charges are billable?

Treatment depends on the billing model, the offer's Azure benefit eligibility, and whether the charge falls within the MACC coverage period. Customers should review billing timing and invoice details for the specific offer.
