We update Visual Studio frequently to provide you with new features, performance and reliability improvements, security updates, and bug fixes.

We make older and unsupported versions of Visual Studio available so that our Enterprise and Professional customers have flexibility and control as to when they adopt updates. Refer to our support policy or our release rhythm documentation for additional information.

The Visual Studio Community edition is only supported on the Stable channel using the latest version of Visual Studio.

Release Notes

Installation of Visual Studio

The following links will install the latest release from the Stable channel.

Installation of a specific release

If you are an Enterprise or Professional customer and need to install or update to a specific release of Visual Studio, you can find the available bootstrappers in the tables below. There is a separate release for each channel. The channel identity controls the updates subsequently available through Administrator updates.

Administrator Update packages for older releases are also available from the Microsoft Update Catalog. These packages will update a Visual Studio installation or a network layout to the package version for the installed channel. Additional instructions for how to create or maintain your network layout can be found in the Visual Studio Administrators Guide or the Update a network based installation of Visual Studio documentation.

Uninstalling Visual Studio to go back to an earlier release

If you want to revert to the your previously installed version, use the rollback feature. Rollback only allows you to the immediately prior installed version. For example, if your updated from 18.0.5 to 18.0.7, rollback will return your installation to 18.0.5 only, and not 18.0.6 or 18.0.1.

If you want to revert to a different release, you must first uninstall your current installation and use one of the links below to re-install the version that you prefer. Before attempting to install a previous version of Visual Studio, refer to our support policy. Microsoft does not guarantee support outside of this policy.

Note that uninstalling Visual Studio will not remove standalone products and components such as .NET, SQL, IIS, Visual C++ Redistributables, and SDKs. These may need to be removed manually from Installed Apps in Windows Settings.
