Step 1: Configure the Head Node as a Broker Node

Applies To: Windows HPC Server 2008

To use a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) application with your Windows® HPC Server 2008 cluster, you must configure at least one node to be a Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) broker node. You can enable the WCF broker node role on the head node.

Important

WCF Broker nodes must be connected to the enterprise network.

To configure the head node as a WCF broker node

  1. Open HPC Cluster Manager:

Click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft HPC Pack, and then click HPC Cluster Manager.

  2. Select the head node:

In Node Management, in the Navigation Pane, under Nodes, under By Group, click HeadNodes.

  3. Take the head node offline:

    1. In the views pane, right-click the head node, then click Take Offline.

    2. In the Take Offline Node dialog box, click Yes. Look for the node status in the views pane, and wait until the state of the node has changed to Offline before going to the next step.

  4. Add the WCF broker role to the head node:

    1. In the views pane, right-click the node, then click Change Role.

    2. In the Change Node Role dialog box, select WCF broker node, and then click OK.

  5. Bring the head node online:

In the views pane, right-click the node, and then click Bring Online.

  6. Verify the role assignment:

In the Navigation Pane, under Nodes, under By Group, click WCFBrokerNodes. In the views pane, confirm that the head node appears in the list.
