Open a Remote Desktop Connection

Applies To: Windows HPC Server 2008

In HPC Cluster Manager, you can open a remote desktop connection to the nodes in your cluster.

Important

You must install Remote Desktop Client 6.1 for the cluster remote desktop tool to work if you are running HPC Cluster Manager on an operating system that is older than one of the following operating systems:

  • Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 (SP1)

  • Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3)

  • Windows Server 2008

For more information, see Remote Desktop Connection (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=78101). For information about using HPC Cluster Manager, see Overview of HPC Cluster Manager.

Opening a remote desktop

To open a remote desktop connection

  1. In Node Management, in the Navigation Pane, click Nodes.

  2. In the List or Heat Map view, select one or more nodes.

  3. Right-click your selection, the click Remote Desktop.

  4. When prompted, enter your credentials to connect to each remote server.

  5. In the remote desktop console, the nodes that you selected appear under Current nodes. Click a node in the list to open a remote desktop connection.

  6. To change the Current nodes, click All nodes (filtered). Use the filter drop-down lists to narrow the list of nodes to a subset of interest.

Additional considerations

  • If you select Remember my password, then the same credentials will be used every time you open a remote desktop connection. You can switch credentials in the remote desktop console by clicking Change Password.

  • To open HPC Cluster Manager, click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft HPC Pack, and then click HPC Cluster Manager. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
