How to: Use a Different Test Plan

If you want to use a different test plan with Microsoft Test Manager, you must change the test plan. The test plan that you are currently using is shown in the upper-right corner of the Microsoft Test Manager window, as you can see in the following illustration of the title bar of Microsoft Test Manager. You can use the hyperlink to change to a different test plan, or you can click the Home icon.

Select a Test Plan To Use

To switch between test plans that you often use, you can create a shortcut by copying the URL to connect to the selected plan. For more information, see How to: Switch between Test Plans Using URLs.

Note

When you use a different test plan, you must first close all open items and activities that are associated with your current test plan.

To use a different test plan

  1. Open Microsoft Test Manager.

    Note

    To display the Microsoft Test Manager window, click Start, and then click All Programs. Point to Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and then click Microsoft Test Manager 2010.

  2. To select a different test plan, click the test plan name hyperlink in the upper-right corner, or click the home icon.

    The Testing Center view is displayed that shows any existing test plans.

    Note

    This activity will be displayed automatically when you first start Microsoft Test Manager.

  3. (Optional) To add a plan, click Add.

    The Add test plan dialog box is displayed.

    1. Type the name for your plan in Enter the plan name, and then click Add.

      Your plan is now added to the list and highlighted.

  4. To select the plan you added, select the plan in the list and then click Select plan.

    The name of the test plan is displayed in the upper right hand corner of the Microsoft Test Manager window.
