End of availability for classic Teams client

Overview

A new Teams client is now rolled out, replacing the classic client. This rollout involved installing the new Teams client, with Microsoft attempting to uninstall the classic Teams client after the installation of new Teams. This article has the timelines and details of end of support and end of availability for classic Teams client.

Timeline updates

The rollout of the new Teams client is complete. As of July 1, 2025, the classic Teams client is no longer available.

Native clients excluding VDI:

The end of support for the classic Teams client started July 1, 2024. The end of availability for the classic Teams client started July 1, 2025.

VDI timeline:

The end of support for the classic Teams client in VDI started October 1, 2024. The end of availability for the classic Teams client in VDI started July 1, 2025.

The following items are the important timeline concepts to keep in mind:

  • End of support: The end of our supporting classic Teams client. We no longer provided updates or new features for the client, nor do we help resolve support issues with the classic Teams client.
  • End of availability: The end of functionality for the classic Teams client. After this date, the classic client no longer works and users can't do work in the classic Teams client.

User experience

Classic Teams reached the end of support on July 1, 2025.

Using the web app

Users who can't upgrade to the new Teams client on their device can use the new Teams web app on supported browsers instead.
