Use cases white paper for Dragon Copilot (radiologists)

Intended use cases

Dragon Copilot, for use by radiologists, is currently available in public preview only.

Dragon Copilot, for use by radiologists, is an assistive AI solution that supports radiologists in their reporting workflows. Radiologists remain fully responsible for all clinical decisions, interpretations, and final report content.

Prior report summary (PRS)

Generation of concise summaries of prior radiology reports to support rapid understanding of clinical history, disease trajectory, and previously reported findings. PRS extracts key information directly from existing report text, to provide an efficient orientation to historical imaging context. Radiologists must review and validate all summarized content prior to use in interpretation or reporting.

Chat

Chat retrieves contextual medical information from trusted, organization-approved clinical references. Radiologists can use Chat to look up guideline language, terminology definitions, staging rules, or clarifications relevant to an imaging finding. Responses include citations or links to underlying source materials. Chat doesn't generate diagnostic conclusions, clinical recommendations, or interpretations of imaging examinations.

AI draft (optional extension)

AI draft integrates with customer-approved, third-party AI models to generate draft radiology report text based on imaging or textual inputs. Draft content is provided solely as starting material: radiologists are responsible for reviewing, editing, correcting, and finalizing all report content. Dragon Copilot doesn't autonomously create final reports, provide diagnostic interpretations, or determine impression language. Use of investigational image-based models might require customer governance processes, including Institutional Review Board (IRB) oversight.

Report optimization (optional extension)

Report optimization evaluates draft radiology report content for completeness, internal consistency, clarity, and adherence to institutional documentation standards. The system highlights potential omissions or inconsistencies and offers suggestions for radiologist consideration. Dragon Copilot doesn't independently modify report content; radiologists retain full control and decide whether to consider or disregard all recommendations.

Considerations when choosing other use cases

  • Check the information in the prior report summary against the sources by using the provided provenance links.

  • The prior report summary might omit relevant observations, so the radiologist should review the historical reports when necessary.

  • The Dragon Copilot chat system can source uncurated information from the public internet but lists the source of the information.

Unsupported use cases

  • Dragon Copilot can't directly access data in your Electronic Medical Record system.

  • The Dragon Copilot chat system doesn't have medical context for a specific patient.
