Intelligent diagnoses retrieval from Epic

Dragon Copilot and DAX Copilot generate diagnoses for the Assessment and Plan section of the clinical note, based on the ambient recording. The system retrieves diagnoses directly from Epic and compares them with Dragon Copilot's AI-generated diagnoses. When the diagnoses align, the note uses the Epic diagnoses. If there's no alignment, the note retains the diagnoses generated by Dragon Copilot or returns the Epic diagnoses without an Assessment and Plan section. This approach ensures the diagnoses documented in the note aligns with the diagnoses recorded in Epic, delivering the most specific and accurate diagnosis available.

What should users expect?

The diagnoses included in the final note follows one of these scenarios:

  • Dragon Copilot and Epic have aligned diagnoses: Epic diagnoses included in note.

  • Dragon Copilot generated diagnoses not aligned with Epic diagnoses: Dragon Copilot generated diagnoses included in note.

  • Epic retrieved diagnoses not aligned with Dragon diagnoses: Epic diagnoses included in note without Assessment and Plan section.

FAQs

Is this feature the same as diagnosis-aware notes?

No. You don't need to use diagnosis-aware notes to benefit from this improvement. However, if you use diagnosis-aware notes, you get better diagnoses matching and improved plan alignment.

How do I know if my site is sending diagnoses to Dragon Copilot?

You must be on Epic Vendor Services 2.3 or later and have no blocks to retrieve the content.

Does this feature slow down how quickly users receive notes?

No.

Does this feature impact templates?

Templates are applied after the visit diagnoses improvement and plan alignment. Your template uses retrieved content if you don't use "transcript only".

What if users don't enter visit diagnoses?

They receive an Assessment and Plan section based on the diagnoses said in Dragon Copilot's ambient recording.

What does this feature mean for the Assessment and Plan section?

It improves the content of the note automatically by replacing the diagnoses generated by Dragon Copilot with the diagnoses retrieved from Epic and re-aligning the plans. The diagnoses generated by Dragon Copilot from the ambient recordings is retained. The diagnoses retrieved from Epic without a plan is retained.

Is there any configuration required?

Make sure your organization uses Epic Vendor Services 2.3 or later and doesn't block Dragon Copilot. Users must enter the visit diagnoses before the end of the last recording.

What happens if users change the visit diagnoses?

The note reflects the changes if users enter them before the end of the last recording.

Does this require a clinician to enter visit diagnoses?

Yes. Clinicians must enter diagnoses before the end of the last recording.

What happens if diagnoses aren't retrieved from Epic?

The note contains the current Assessment and Plan with the Dragon Copilot generated diagnoses and associated plans.

What happens if a user adds visit diagnoses in Epic and then starts ambient recording in Dragon Copilot?

The entire note is rewritten and the Assessment and Plan section is updated with the entered visit diagnosis.

Is the problem list used as well as the visit diagnoses?

No. You must promote the problem to a visit diagnosis for it to be included in the note.
