Business value
Same-batch selection helps ensure consistent product quality and traceability by preventing mixed-batch consumption, reducing compliance risk, and simplifying production control.
Feature details
This feature ensures that raw materials consumed by production orders and batch orders all come from the same batch. Process and discrete manufacturers can use it together with related production-control capabilities that govern how raw materials are allocated to a production order.
Product designers and production engineers can set the same-batch requirement at the released-product level so that it applies by default everywhere the item is consumed. They can optionally fine-tune it for individual bill of materials (BOM) or formula lines where a different rule is appropriate. Production planners and warehouse workers who reserve raw materials for a production or batch order see the system automatically restrict the available on-hand inventory to a single batch per line, instead of mixing quantities from several batches. The result is the consistent, traceable, single-batch consumption pattern that's needed for quality-controlled manufacturing scenarios—without requiring operators to remember and enforce the rule manually.
Key capabilities available in Supply Chain Management version 10.0.49
Version 10.0.49 of Supply Chain Management introduces the following capabilities to support same-batch selection for raw materials in production and batch orders:
- Configure same-batch selection at the product level as a default requirement to ensure consistent raw material consumption.
- Allow overrides on formula and BOM lines to support flexibility where batch consistency requirements differ.
- Enforce same-batch reservation by ensuring raw material reservation respects the same-batch requirement defined on formula and BOM lines.
- Support traceability and control by preventing mixed-batch consumption during raw material reservation.
Enhancements planned for future versions of Supply Chain Management
Future versions of Supply Chain Management are expected to introduce additional capabilities to further enhance same-batch selection for raw materials in production and batch orders, including:
- Same-batch enforcement during master planning allocation.
- Execution validation to ensure that same-batch requirements are validated during picking and consumption for production.
