This skill handles assessment and automated upgrades of existing Azure workloads from one Azure service, hosting plan, or SKU to another — all within Azure. This includes plan/tier upgrades, cross-service migrations, and SKU changes. This skill also covers Azure SDK for Java source-code modernization. This skill doesn't handle cross-cloud migration.

What it provides
The Azure Upgrade skill gives GitHub Copilot specialized knowledge about Azure upgrade scenarios. Use this skill to assess upgrade readiness, plan migrations between Azure service tiers and plans (including Azure Functions hosting plan upgrades with monitoring verification), modernize legacy Azure Java SDK dependencies, and migrate Azure Cache for Redis to Azure Managed Redis.
Prerequisites
- Azure subscription: Create a free account if you don't have one.
- AI assistant with Azure Skills: GitHub Copilot for Azure, Visual Studio Code with Azure MCP extension, Claude Code, or another compatible MCP client.
- Azure CLI (v2.60.0+): Install and sign in with
az login.
