Error 193: 0xc1 when starting windows service

Hello,

I see there is another related question, however I do not understand what 'dependent services' are and cannot check these.

I am trying to start MySql service and I receive the error

Windows could not start the MySql56 service on the local computer.

Error 193:0xc1

I should also note that when I start windows, I receive this message:

There is a file or folder called "c:\Program" which could cause certain applications to not function correctly. Renaming it to "c:\Program1" would solve this problem

I don't know if these issues are related.

Thank you for your answer, I did run both programs (malware did find malware!) however the error message still remains.

I am also seeing the C:program error again.

You found malware? I hope your machine is not compromised with a rootkit. I suggest to run Trend's Rescue Disk and run a scan offline:
http://www.trendmicro.com/tools/us/rescue-disk/index.html

As for MySQL, can you copy the data off and completely uninstall it? If you can, let's see if that C:program thing goes away. If not, then I would run the rescue disk.

In cases like this, sometimes it's easier to rebuild the machine. I hope it's not a DC.

Hi,

The dependencies for a service are some other services that must be running for that service to function. You can open Services and right-click the service that you want to view dependencies for, click Properties and then click Dependencies tab to view the service dependencies. You can check the dependencies for MySQL service and make sure that the dependent services are running fine.

How did you run the MySQL service? Did you run it as a Windows service? Please check if you have any file/folder named program in t C: and also check if any viruses or malwares exist.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, MySql is running as a windows service. C: has been scanned and threats removed.

This difficulty occurred after trying to reset a forgotten root password after installing MySql for the first time.

I will continue to try other methods of removing the error, but if you or others have other suggestions I would appreciate it.

I thought that a system restore/reinstall might work, but it did not.

There may be the possibility that the C:\programs reference could be malware. Just in case, I recommend running an anti-malware scan with the following free utilities:

Malwarebytes utility (www.malwarebytes.com - don't install the pro trial version) and remove whatever it finds
Microsoft malicious software Removal utility http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/malware-removal.aspx.

Thanks. Our EMC Networker app had created a Programs.ZIP file for some reason at the root of D. Exchange is installed on the D drive. I saw several articles that stated you can go into the registry and modify the ImagePath key.. essentially making sure you put quotation marks around the path and executable. But Exchange seems to manage those registry values because they are all blank. I didn't want to start messing with it.

FYI: I was running Exchange 2013 with service pack 1. I was unable to start the Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology service (MSExchangeADTopology)

All is well now.

I'm glad to hear you figured out what it is. I believe you can also change that in the system PATH variable.

Can you share the articles that you've found? Hopefully they can benefit others that may have a similar issue and find this thread in their search.
