Pen pressure with Wacom Intuos 4 over MS Remote Desktop

Question

Wednesday, January 18, 2017 9:36 AM | 1 vote

Hello,

According to the article "Introducing pen remoting for Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016" Windows 10 has a feature of pressure sensitivity in Remote Desktop. I am using Windows 10 on both of my computers (from which and to which I'm connecting) and I can't get this feature to work. I am using Wacom Intuos 4 L. On the workstation I'm connecting to there is Wacom Pro M, if that matters.

When I'm painting in Paint, it paints with stylus (remotely), but with no pressure of course. But in Photoshop CS5 it painted normally when I use mouse, but with stylus it only changes cursor to that of stylus, but doesn't paint at all. When I tap and drag first it used to just place a dot where I tapped, but didn't continue the line when I dragged. But if I stared moving mouse it would draw a line to the cursor "crazily". And after few reboots, now it doesn't draw at all, even with the mouse (remotely). And in Maya it also doesn't "drag", nor has pressure sensitivity.

Thank you for your help in advance!

Andrey

Hi MoonlightRomantic,

I found the following link.
Introducing pen remoting for Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016
https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/enterprisemobility/2015/07/22/introducing-pen-remoting-for-windows-10-and-windows-server-2016/

Based on this link, we should ensure the pen pressure worked locally then it should work for remote desktop and it doesn`t need any additional configuration. But we should remote to a Windows 10 machine from a Windows 10 machine.
Try to download the latest Windows 10 compatible driver for your Wacom Intuos 4 device then check the symptom again.

Best regards

Hi MeipoXu,

Yes, that's exact article I was talking about (I couldn't attach a link, for my account is not yet autorised or something..)

Both machines I'm connecting are Windows 10.

Now on both machines there are latest drivers for Wacom graphic tablets (v 6.3.20-3). Locally on both machines pen pressure sensitivity works well, but unfortunately still not remotely. Over Remote Desktop it's possible to paint, but without pressure sensitivity. When I open Wacom Tablet properties on the receiving end machine it doesn't "see" pressure being applied from the tablet on the machine I am connetcing from.

Kind regards,

Andrey

Hi MoonlightRomantic,

According to my research, the latest version should be "6.3.20-5". Please try the latest version.

Unfortunately, I didn`t have a device to verify this. You could try to submit the with the "Feedback" hub if the issue persists with the latest driver version.

Hi MeipoXu,

The article (Introducing pen remoting for Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016) is from July 22, 2015 and the latest ("6.3.20-5") version of Wacom driver is from January 19, 2017, so that's not the case. Anyway I'll try to install the newest driver, although I am pretty sure it will not resolve the issue. I suppose the problem is not with the Wacom drivers, but with the MS Remote Desktop.

Best regards,

Andrey

Hi MoonlightRomantic,

Due to the limited working environment, it is not available for me to test this feature. If it is possible, please test with different machine with the newest driver version. If the issue persists, you could submit the issue on your side with the "Feedback" tool. I will submit the issue on my side with the internal tool.

Best regards
