Windows 10 Group Policy RSOP - Fast link detected

Question

Saturday, April 23, 2016 4:43 PM

We have recently introduced some Windows 10 PCs into our environment and have updated SYSVOL with the Windows 10 1511 ADM template. When trying to run RSOP on a Windows 10 PC (locally), I receive "A fast link was detected" for both computer and user policy. Any ideas why I'm getting this? I have "wait for network at startup/logon" enabled and have disabled "Fast startup" in power options. Any ideas why I am receiving this? Any suggested troubleshooting steps?

Hi ja0821,

Could you please share the message here? Did you see the warning message on the symmary page?

Based on what I understand, this seems to be not an issue about problems, if you ran RSOP on client, it will generate the information about the link, which is a new function published in Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8, see this blog:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/nepapfe/archive/2013/07/29/what-s-new-in-group-policy-windows-server-2012.aspx

New information in “Summary” section:

  • If a slow link or fast link is detected
  • If block inheritance is set
  • If enforced is set
  • If loopback is enabled
  • Disabled User or Computer configurations

Click on the more information part, it should have more information about the Fast link detected, and how it will affect Group policy Management.

Hi ja0821,

Yes, on Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2, the summary has been updated.

Please check the blog I posted for more details:

It is in the summary page of the RSOP. It just shows "During last computer policy refresh on ... A fast link was detected." Same message for user policy. I was expecting to see the list of all applied/denied GPOs. Is that no longer in the summary screen (now in details with all of the settings)?

I'm not able to run an rsop on any remote Windows 10 machines for some reason. That is an issue I created a separate thread for though.
