Win 2012 R2 L2TP Server : Ports required for VPN connections have been blocked by the firewall.

Question

Hi,

I have created new VPN server (L2TP) using Win 2012R2, but get error: "Ports required for VPN connections have been blocked by the firewall"

After doing lot of google I have open following ports in Win Firewall but no help:

1. Enabled builtin Win firewall rule "Routing and Remote Access (L2TP-In)" for both inbound and outbound. [UDP 1701]
2. Created Win firewall rule "VPN all ports"  UDP 500, 1701, 4500" both inbound and outbound.
3. Created another rule "VPN TCP Port"   TCP 1701 both inbound and outbound.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in Advance

Hi,

There is a article about vpn ports

Which ports to unblock for VPN traffic to pass-through

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/rrasblog/2006/06/14/which-ports-to-unblock-for-vpn-traffic-to-pass-through/

We could turn off the firewall temporarily to see if the firewall block the connection or not .

Would you please check the events in RRAS and post the original error ?It would help to find the problem .

We could use network monitor on client to analyze the process .We could find out which packet is sent but not responded .Then we would know what are blocked by firewall .

Here is the guide for network monitor :
